Audio Industry In Brief

Audio Industry In Brief

Gracenote's CMI: Many audiophiles are joyously embracing high-end music servers in their systems, but one vexing little problem has remained for serious music listeners: The metadata tags that work so well for popular music are completely inadequate for identifying classical works.

Satellite Radio: Deal or No Deal?

Satellite Radio: Deal or No Deal?

While both XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio have been growing their subscriber bases (almost 8 million for each), Wall Street has remained unimpressed. Both firms ended 2006 with stock prices that were approximately half their 2006 levels (Sirius at $3.54 and XM at $14.45).

Off Topic Posting

Dear Members,

Have we grown our community to the point of perhaps needing a more dedicated moderator?

This off topic posting, in many cases, is getting a bit out of hand. There would seem to be some regular posters who obsessively pick apart posts only to lead the thread, and other posters responses to same, into a free for all!

I see no indication of our current moderator attempting to curb these actions, and worry it may ultimately be an undoing of participation by current and future members.

Maim CD555

Outlaw/digital audio question

Forums

I am new at this, obviously, and am interested in beginning to build a better system. I was wondering what is the deal with digital coaxial and optical cable in audio systems. The Rega Apollo has these connections for digital audio, but the Outlaw seems to only have analog inputs. I thought, from reading, that receivers now work with digital audio, but this must not be entirely true. What am I missing here? Who is lying to me?

Equalizer speakers for Flat vs. Front?

Forums

For the YPAO calibration in my Yamaha RX-V1400 receiver it gives me the option to equalize based on a variety of settings, including Front, Flat, Mid, High etc.

In the manual it says to use "Front" if your front speakers are of better quality that the others. And it says to use "Flat" if all speakers are of equal quality.

I'd like your opinion on which may be best in my situation...
