I am interested in going the tube way !! However, primarily because of cost considerations, I might first try the "hybrid" way. In order to get most of the benefits of the "tube experience" which component should be tube powered : preamp or amp ? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know how to make a CD player quiet? It isn't that it is loud... just that because of room set up the unit is very close to the listening position and during more delicate parts I can hear it spinning. Any ideas (moving it is last on my list)?
