A great inexpensive system

After getting very tired of Japanese integrated amplifier components I finally made the move to something a lot better. I purchased an Arcam Solo CD Player and Paradigm Studio 100 speakers. The results are simply stunning. Although the speakers are new and take about 30 hours of listening to break in the music that I am listening to is remarkable. I listem primarily to jazz recorded in the 50's and 60's and the XRCD's are amazing to listen to..even little things like symbols and horn playing is great.

Sky Racers

Sky Racers

In the 1920s and '30s, fliers would race their home-built and "suicidally overpowered" single engine aircraft—sometimes in front of 60,000 spectators. The Granville Brothers' Gee Bee Model Z was little more than a massive motor with stubby little wings attached, but it paved the way for the fast fighters the Air Corps put aloft in WWII.

On the Evolution of Style

On the Evolution of Style

I've been reading Chet Raymo's Walking Zero, a meditation on the history of science focussed through a walk along the prime meridian in the UK. It's a lovely book, one I tend to linger over, reading a chapter and then mulling over it for a few days. Highly recommended.

Tube amp ?

Forums

I have been thinking about a "budget" 2 channel rig and would like to use a tube amp. I was wondering just how much power the amp has to have to drive a nice little set of bookshelf speakers? I have come across a couple small amps but they have 5 watts or less per channel.
Thoughts??
Recommendations??

Thanks all!!

VPI Super Platter Upgrade for Scout

Ordered the VPI Super Platter upgrade for the Scout turntable just as soon as it became available. It was shipped without an appropriate spacer for the spindle, and without installation instructions. While waiting for VPI to ship a spacer have made do in the interim. The upgrade is worth every penny in terms of great sound, though it's cost does not begin and end with this very heavy and slightly larger platter upgrade. The Gingko Cloud platform the turntable was sitting on before the upgrade had to go.

O'Neill at Sing-Sing

O'Neill at Sing-Sing

Eugene O'Neill is currently having a resurgence everywhere from prisons to Broadway (John Atkinson ranks the Old Vic production of Moon For the Misbegotten as one of his most intense theatrical experiences). John Patrick Diggens argues that O'Neill's themes of deceit and desire are particularly timely for 'Muricans today.

Multi-channel system advice

Hi, I am interested in putting together a multi-channel system, and would like some advice on equipment choices.

I want a good system, but I don't want to spend an absolute fortune, and would be happy to buy second-hand.

The system I am thinking about is a Krell Standard SACD and a Linar Model 10 integrated.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this combo, and other suggestions for source and/or amplifier.

Is anyone interested in selling either of the above?

Thanks & regards, Strongarm
