I'm happy to have read a Stereophile review of a product that the reviewer didn't like. I don't know if my whining had anything to do with it or if it's just a co-incidence, but I'm really happy about it. I really think that publishing negative reviews establishes reviewer's credibility.
BTW, I think it's ok to say that a product just plain sucks without any qualifiers such as "some may like it" or "this isn't my cup of tea, but others may feel differently" or any other such cushioning statement. If it sucks, it sucks. Say so.
I have an Oppo DVD player connected only with coaxial digital inputs to an A/V receiver (Sony 5200ES). When I play SACD I get (a nice) sound therefore it seems that digital output is enabled. But I get only 2 channels (even if priority is set to multi-channel) and no hint of the actual sampling rate (unlike when playing DVD audio).
I wonder if there is any way of getting multichannel sound from SACD through the digital connexion.
Can anybody help?
I really don't know what to make of this but it's bound to set the cat among the pigeons.
I have mine on pre-order anyway. Waddayareckon JM??
SONY BMG MASTERWORKS AND ZENPH
In his hopeful assessment of the future (As We See It), Jon Iverson celebrates downloading as a route to finding new music. No argument from me, but there is another route that I find more fun - the used vinyl rack at my local indie record shop. Picking through the jazz the other day I happened upon a misfiled record (understandably misfiled - the cover picture was Wynton Marsalis).
I have a Linn Sondek LP12 that I bought new in 1977 with an Alphason HR100S tonearm and a Madrigal Carnegie One mc cartridge. It was considered the best set-up around at the time. It has had very little use and in storage for the last 10 years. I plan to list it in classifieds but have been told I will get more if I sell the tone arm, cartridge and table seperately. I have obviously been out of touch with the market for some time. What should I do? Thanks for your opinions!
I have a McIntosh CR10 SS preamp with remote control (very important to me) and was wondering if I ran the signal from my Primare CD player through a tube preamp first (non remote) then to the McIntosh would I gain the benefit of the "tube sound" or would the signal get to muddy and sound bad? Thank you.
Any plans to review this $10K Player? Looks like it might be a giant killer. It may push JA's mearsuring gear way beyond its limits.
