Last-Minute Reprieve for Web Radio

Things looked grim for Internet radio late last week. On July 11, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals declined to delay the <A HREF="http://stereophile.com/news/031907internet/">increase</A&gt; in digital performance royalties the Copyright Royalty Board imposed last March. The new fees were scheduled to go into effect on July 15, retroactive to the beginning of 2006.

Audio Research $10K amp

Once again JA brings out the reality of a basically poor amplifier with a price tag of $10K!! A damping factor of 12 !!! That must be a loose wooly ill defined 1940' sounding turd. Come on, and of course teh subjective reviewer gives it his blessing how wonderful it sounds. How on earth can such a design be nuetral in reproduction? Freq resspone shows a very limited range this is 2007 lotsa amps are down to DC -500kHz..I know mine are. With slew rates of 800V/uS to make things sound ALIVE. The $10 K unit sounds like one over privced under performer.

Budget MCH music(is it possible?)

Everyone, please feel free to post replies to this, but I'm mainly looking for a response from Kal Rubinson.
I'm looking to put together a "decent" setup if possible. I own a few DVD-Audio discs & I like the Dolby Digital mixes, so I'd like to hear the "real" thing.
To start, I've decided to stick with my 5 NHT Super Zeros & NHT Subwoofer for now. Yes, I do sometimes listen to organ music! I want to get the SACD Kal recommended recently.
Anyway,I would like to avoid another A/V receiver if possible. I already have a Kenwood for Dvd watching.

Live or livingroom?

Nothing beats the sound of live music. But then again, I often wish I was listening to music in the comfort of my home while seated in the cramped, nose-bleed section of Carnegie Hall, for instance, between an 80 something who unknowingly toys with her medicated-candy wrappers and a bored Wall Street gentleman who has to leaf through the program notes--in search of corporate sponsor listings--throughout the entire performance.

Bridges to Babylon

Bridges to Babylon

Stadium rock is my idea of the inner circle of Hell. I hate crowds. I have zero interest in the rich and famous. And I've never been much of a Rolling Stones fan. Give me a choice, and I'll take Weslia Whitfield at the Plush Room 10 times out of 10: a cushy seat, some witty companions, a little Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Heavenly.
