Everyone, please feel free to post replies to this, but I'm mainly looking for a response from Kal Rubinson.
I'm looking to put together a "decent" setup if possible. I own a few DVD-Audio discs & I like the Dolby Digital mixes, so I'd like to hear the "real" thing.
To start, I've decided to stick with my 5 NHT Super Zeros & NHT Subwoofer for now. Yes, I do sometimes listen to organ music! I want to get the SACD Kal recommended recently.
Anyway,I would like to avoid another A/V receiver if possible. I already have a Kenwood for Dvd watching.
I will start with a Cambridge Audio DVD-87 universal player from Audio Advisor. I found stereo amps from Audio Source on the J&R website for 100.00. Is Audio Source a good brand? I figure to get 3 of those, 1 at a time. The problem is finding a MCH pre-amp that I can afford; even 500.00 is a chunk of change for me, but doable.
I found a brief review of the Sony TA-9000ES here from Nov.2001. Being"pure audio" would seem to be ideal. However, I'm reluctant to buy a "Mass market" product and Kal said in another column that it was noisey. Also, I'd have to buy it used. Did Sony really fix the problem? Are their other MCH preamps for a similar price? I do realize that in my price range their will be many compromises, but I would like to get the best I can afford. Thanks to all who can help.
