Funny Little Plans

Funny Little Plans

I was doing a little dance on the subway platform. I was standing behind a dirty, purple column, so that no one could see me. I was waiting for the uptown F train. I was listening to the iPod¹. I was somehow avoiding death. And it occurred to me that I should start a new band.

There goes the weekend!!

I thought I'd put up a list of software that I've been fooling around with lately. I've seen EAC, Foobar, & Flac mentioned before in passing but I haven't seen any threads for people to contribute useful free applications that they have found. With any luck we'll end up with a fairly comprehensive list.

Amp for Rega P1 table and Epos 3 speakers

Forums

Hi All! I'm new to these forums and a newbie audiophile (well, I guess that's not really possible, right?!). Anyway, I'm a music junkie and am just revisiting an old love for vinyl. I recently purchased a Rega P1 turntable and found a great closeout price on a pair of Epos ELS-3s. What would you recommend for an integrated amp or phono pre amp / amp combo to drive this modest system? I will primarily use it for vinyl listening in my small home office.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you all

I want to thank all the posters on the board for their enlightening opinions and insights. When I was listening to John Coltrane meets Duke Ellington last night I was reminded of just how beautiful some recordings can be if you have some good equipment. When I was debating the Arcam Solo a number of people stepped up and said "it's a great unit" and the same for the Paradigm Speakers. I have to say that when I first got the speakers it didnt sound as good as they do now but people said to give them 30 hours or so to "warm up".

New Age ... definition of "stereo"please

Hi and thanks for looking in.

I used to be guarded about buying radios making sure that sets advertised with 'FM Radio' used the nomenclature "FM Stereo Radio". Somewhere in my education, someone pointed out that not all things were "stereo" and so you had to pay attention. Back then, it seemed stereo had a legal meaning too.

Festival

Festival

The JVC Jazz Festival is in New York City (a bit of an absurdity: New York City is a jazz festival, all the time). A crazy schedule prevents me from seeing much this year (less and less of this festival is actually jazz, in any case), but I’m definitely catching the Keith Jarrett-Gary Peacock-Jack DeJohnette trio, Thursday night at Carnegie Hall, and Lee Konitz playing with a few bands, in honor of his 80th birthday (!), Monday night at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall.
