Technics turntable confusion

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place for this question but here goes. I've had my eye on a few mark 1 technics SL turntables, to replace an old sony one I have now. Could anyone shed some light on the differences between the models? Some seem to have more features like the SL 1600 is automatic I think, but the SL 1200 and 1800 look the same. Im assuming the SL 1800 was a cheaper version at time. What is the real difference if any? I'm looking at a SL 1800 at the moment.

Thanks alot if anyone can help here.

EMMLabs, dCS, Meridian, Ayre

Has anyone compared the top end CD/SACD/DVD-A playback of these devices carefully?

What do people consider the sound quality differences between these different components?

Has anyone compared the Meridian 861 DAC sound quality with the Meridian 808i? Are they equivalent?

I know some devices don't have SACD playback and others do, but don't have DVD-A playback, but how do they compare in areas where they do play back the same formats, especially CD playback?

Thanks,

Jeff

Schematic for Insignia HC040917

Does anyone know where I could find a Schematic for a Insignia HC040917. I have looked all over the internet and when I contacted Insignia they seemed to have no interest in helping me (why wasn't I suprised?) I have an intermittent problem that is next to impossible to repair without a schematic. Please help, this is my last resort.

Why Do They Hate Us?

Why Do They Hate Us?

Mohsin Hamid, author of The Reluctant Fundamentalist, was asked on a book tour, "So tell me, sir. Why do they hate us?" Having spent half his life in America, the Pakistani writer had to think about who "us" and "they" were. This fine essay is the result of that thinking.

Are there times when you just don't want to listen to music? Why not?

Sometimes, we don't listen to music for days at a time, just so it sounds fresh again when we finally do. And sometimes we just yearn for something better and are willing to hit pause until we discover it. Are there times when you just don't want to listen to music? Why not?

The THD Wars Are Over?

The THD Wars Are Over?

Back in the bad old pioneer days of high fidelity, the 1960s and early 1970s, amplifier manufacturers embarked on a specifications war, claiming ever lower percentages of total harmonic distortion. But, as J. Gordon Holt presciently pointed out in the 1960s, without reference to the spectrum of the distortion harmonics, the actual percentage was not in itself a reliable indicator of an amplifier's sound quality. And as those early low-THD models had distortion spectra that were heavily biased toward the sonically objectionable fifth, seventh, and ninth harmonics, and suffered from other related ills, they tended to sound quite nasty.
