hey everyone,
This is my first post in here, so please go easy on me ok
I'm in the market for a new HI FI Stereo setup.
I have been collection punk and garage records for the last 14 years. 90% of my music collection consists of vinyl records and a feel CDs (great source for bootlegs and compilations).
My wife bought me for xmas a KAB Technics 1200 fully loaded with a Shure V15VxMR.
It was major improvement from my previous turntable but now my 90's Marantz PM-94 amp is falling apart.
surge suppressors / power conditioners / power management
My question is, are expensive power management products really worth the money? And I guess you could define "expensive" however you want to. I realize it's a category with a wide range of prices and performance. I don't know whether I should be willing to cough up a few hundred to protect a $4000 system, or whether I should keep doing what I've always done, which is to go to Radio Shack or Wal-Mart and get a $30 or $40 dollar surge protector and call it good.
In the August '07 edition of Stereophile, JA measures the Memento and declares that the speaker has an excellent set of measurements. However, taking a look at the on-axis frequency response, it seems that the mid treble is shelved down by about 4.5db, but JA does not comment on that.
I am a novice when it comes to such matters, and perhaps there is more to a good set of measurements than FR only. But does a speaker that is not flat to within +- 3db from say 500 Hz - 8 Khz qualify as a speaker with excellent measurements, as opposed to merely good measurements ?
