I visited my local hi-fi dealer this weekend to let him know how happy I am with my system and see what was new. I asked him about people that come loaded with "specs" and he laughed. I told him that for me the only thing that was important was sound not specs. We went into the listening room and he played me two different systems and asked me which one , in my opinion, sounded better. After listening and switching back in forth I told him that as far as I was concerned system B sounded a lot richer and had more depth (they were both using the same B&W speakers).
Getting conflicting info on this:
1. can I replace the internal drive with my own? Olive says no as they need to "specially" interface it with the motherboard. Yeah, right! They provide a recovery CD so I imagine it's as simlpe as formatting it and running the CD.
2. can I add any external USB drive? Olive says it must be their own.
3. if adding an external drive, Olive says it must be accessed "separately". What does this mean? Will my entire collection not appear as one in their software?
hello everyone, I found this forum after a very frustrating afternoon/evening looking for good info about USB DACs and computer audio. It looks like you guys know what you are talking about, I hope so anyway.
Here is what I have now:
First, a new Mac Pro desktop that I want to put an extra 500gb drive in and use that drive for music only, ripped in Apple Lossless via iTunes, with error correction on.
I want a DAC to get that signal to my stereo which is a Rotel piece and on to my B&W speakers.
I don't understand, what don't I understand, basic electrical concepts? You don't seem to understand the basics. a 6 W amplifier is not gonna do anything along the lines of realism, you might have an entirely different idea of what sounds like the live event. Problems with multiple drivers, what are you talkin' bout' Willis? The analogy for you to understand you are trying to illuminate a foot ball field with a 25 W incandesent lamp. You see a faint glow and think that it's lit up.
Would like to share old import albums with my kids (actually, I like to listen to them again!). Haven't used turntable in years. Worked well when last used (likely not to the standards of those in this forum) but tracking messed up now, perhaps full of dust. Followed set-up instructions to no avail......Do I bother to fix JVC Ll-A40 direct drive (if even possible) or obtain an entry level turntable that would allow kids to appreciate difference between vinyl and their mp3 degradations.
I have a Harmon Kardon Citation 17 Pre-Amp, paired with a Citation 16 Power Amp. I would like to connect it to two sets of speakers, through the pre-amp, allowing me to switch between the two sets or use both. The problem I have is I do not own the cable that connects the power amp speaker outputs, to the 5 pin plug connector in the pre-amp. Does anyone know where to get the type of cables from?
