Quad 12L active vs. Wharfedale 8.2 active

Forums

Hello All,
I been having a lot of fun this week playing with these two speakers. I had been using the NHT Classic Three as my main speaker, but then sold them and went back to my Quad 21L. The NHT just didn't do it for me in the bass like the Quad could. I listen in a small room (9'x12') and in the nearfield (6' away). I listen to music at a low to moderate volume level. 70% orchestral and 30% jazz & pop.

Sam Tellig's "ears"

Many issues back in Stereophile, Sam Tellig talked about a device he wore over his ears which gave greater focus to the sound and increased his listening enjoyment. I cannot find the reference and wish to know what was the name of the product he liked so much and if possible, where to purchase it. I make this request due to the decline in my high frequency hearing ability. When I cup my hands over my ears, I hear better (also while watching tv) and I believe this audio device would be of benefit for me.

A new story by Roddy Doyle. 'Nuff said—except that the "f-bomb" is dropped in the second graf. Of course, I already said it's by Roddy Doyle.

Mad Men

Mad Men

I've been fascinated by AMC's summer series Mad Men. Its depiction of 1960 America is revelatory—even though I was alive then, if only eight. And, as Ellen Feldman observes, it's not just the details that make it so powerful, it's a throwback in terms of character development and, dare I say it, pacing. Although AMC has commercials, it doesn't observe the same rhythm other channels do, so some scenes develop for 11 or 12 minutes before a break.
