Can anyone recommend a SACD/CD player which came out less than a year ago with upsampling capabilities and balanced outputs that costs under $1,000? (Am I asking for too much?) I know that the Maverick received rave reviews and is now selling for under 1K, but the unit is on the older side.
I currently use a Denon 2900. I am fairly pleased with its CD playback quality. But the unit is over 4 years old. I am sure today's players half the price of the 2900 outperform it.
Peeved at Clippy the annoying talking paperclip in MS Word? If you're rude to him, he'll tell you how to turn him off. Programmers call this unhappy user detection.
Taylor Dinerman offers an appreciation of Heinlein on the occasion of his centenary. Of course, he conveniently skips over that embarrassing incest novel <I>Time Enough for Love</I>, but I've always marveled that that one raised eyebrows at all. After all, the heroes of <A HREF="http://ieng9.ucsd.edu/~mfedder/zombies.html">"All You Zombies"</A> (considered by some to be the best time travel story ever—although I confess to being thoroughly creeped out by it) and <A HREF="http://www.xs4all.nl/~pot/scifi/byhisbootstraps.pdf">"By His Bootstraps"</A> go considerably further than traveling back in time to seduce their mothers.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on Kimber's "Hero" interconnects (RCA and/or balanced). Please recommend relatively inexpensive interconnects (less than $200 a meter). Also, what's your take on the difference (sound wise), if one indeed exists, between RCA and balanced interconnects?
I recently picked up a pair of used Kan II speakers and a used LK-100 amp. Unfortunately, when I purchased the amp, I did not know that it had active boards for the Keleidth speakers installed in the amp. Does anyone know how to get the LK-100 to work with the speakers?

Wagner's 29-year-old great-granddaughter debuts her production of <I>Die Meistersinger</I> tonight. It's part of a multi-generational saga that rivals the Ring cycle for drama.
