Well, if this isn't a depressing description of one man's Hi Fi...

Hola,

I was hanging out at one of the wine forums and there was a topic asking what Hi Fi gear people had.

There was a reasonable response, but I came across this one, and it bummed me out:

"I used to be really into audio and had an all-Linn hardware system with Nordost cables:

- Unidisk 2.1
- Exotik preamp
- LK140 power
- Ninka loudspeakers
- Nordost Flatline MK II speaker cable (bi-wired)
- Nordost Baldur interconnects

Comparing bookshelf speakers

Hi,

I'll appreciate your input on the following speakers, which are intended to be the main ones for music listening. No Sub at this point due to $$, but might add one down the road-

Dali Concept 2 - $370/pair
Infinity Primus 162 - around $250/pair, online
Paradigm Atom Monitor V.5 - $$ unknown yet
Paradigm Alpha B1 - $$ unknown yet

I've heard the Dali's and loved them. Big and clear sound. Could not compare to the others above yet, but I wonder if it's worth the hunt.

Thanks very much

One more list!

One more list!

It occurs to me that, in my list-o-mania feature, I forgot one that I’d promised—Best Living Jazz Musician of Various Categories. So here they are: the best and the runner-up. These picks will no doubt raise hackles, catcalls, and fisticuffs. So raise them! Send in your choices!

Headphone amp question

Hi there,

I hope this is not too stupid a question, but what causes the speakers to be muted while listening to headphones through a headphone amp?

My current integrated amp has a built-in headphone socket and I need to switch off A and B speakers, otherwise there will be a terrible racket in the house. If you are using a headphone amp and the speaker A/B switch-off facility is not available on the amp, does the headphone amp automatically mute your speakers? Or, do you always require a mute feature of some sort?

Thanks!

Art Dudley's Well-Tempered Record Player followup

I really enjoyed Art's initial article on the WTRP and the fact that it also made it back into the Recommended Components list. I've been a happy owner of the Well-Tempered Turntable Classic (the original, which is like a beefed up version of the Record Player Art reviewed)for almost 20 years now and it's operated flawlessly. I could add a number of thoughts on how great the 'table is but I wanted to address his concern about the platter's concave shape.
