Help converting WAV to AAC

Hi,

Another newbie! I have trawled through many pages and sites looking for a way to convert WAV audio files to AAC for use on my ipod. The original files were FLAC and as great as they sound I would like to free up some space. So if someone could point me in the right direction of how I would do this I'd be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Benson

A Must-Have Rachmaninoff CD

A Must-Have Rachmaninoff CD

It starts quietly enough, with a simple falling-fifth motif, but the first movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's neglected Piano Sonata 1 develops into a work of epic proportions nearly 40 minutes in length, with haunting melodies, massive dynamic contrasts, and lush, sensual harmonies.

Scene the First. You are sitting in a concert hall, dead center, row M; the cellist walks on to the stage, sits down and starts to play the prelude to the first of Bach's solo cello suites, that intricate unfolding of a rhapsodic melodic line within the tight framework of an implied chordal structure. Melody, harmony, rhythm—none exist at any one point of time in this most exquisite of Bach's solo instrumental writing, yet the skill of the composer, coupled with the artistry of the musician, allow you to perceive the abstract as reality.

Speaker suggestions for Yamaha RX-397

Forums

I will be putting this in our house, in a bookshelf application. Two rooms, each about 12 x 12.

The specs say: "50 watts x 2 (stereo) into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.04% THD 4-ohm capability allows use with a wide range of speakers...front-panel and remote switching for two pairs of main speakers...binding post speaker connectors."

This review compares three great headphones with an excellent 3-way, floor standing speaker system. During all of the review the headphones were driven by my stock Woo Audio WA6 that has between 200 and 300 hours on it. The speakers were driven by a 300 watt (into 4 ohms) Conrad Johnson CA200

If any single link in the audio chain should be free of sonic personality, it's the preamplifier. Though a preamplifier's basic job description is "source selector with volume control," from hi-fi's earliest days preamps have been the designated dashboard: the more dials, switches, and lights, the better. All that control came at the cost of quiet, transparency, and tonal neutrality. Still, the quixotic quest for the mythical "straight wire with gain" continued to lead to minimalist designs, including impractical unbuffered "passive" preamps, in which cable length, thus capacitance, affected frequency response.
