Hi all,
I have a Marantz DV9500 universal, and was considering the following options to further upgrade the sound of my digital source: purchase the new Marantz SA11S2, the Ayre CX-7e, or mod the DV9500 with the able assistance of APL Hi-Fi.
I hear great things about all three options, but don't have the opportunity to compare them in advance. For reference, I'll have a Cayin A-88T tube amp and Dali Helicon 400 speakers - I have 95% CDs, with a handful of SACDs and DVD-As.
Any experiences with these players/mods, or any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,

Consider me a complete beginner with hifi (unaware of brands etc); but I love music and would like to experience something other than my current midi system.
My budget is
Newbe - thought of posting this in Entry Level but this forum may be more appropriate.
I am building a new room (office and hopefully listening room) and am concerned that it may be too small for quality listening.
Dimensions are about 15" square (not exactly square, one wall may be a foot longer), with two walls vaulted to a 9 or 9 1/2 foot ceiling. The two vaulted walls are connected forming a corner. So back wall is normal (where the speakers would be), right wall is normal, front wall (listening position) vaulted, left wall vaulted.
On Hyperion. Just stunning, my favorite vocal disc of the past few years. The first song - "There's nae lark" - will just stop you in your tracks with its lyricism & emotional compression. Too good.
