Steven Isserlis' Bach Suites

Very impressive music-making. In the dance sections, the sense of rhythm and pace is unerring, but playful and liberating at the same time. This is one of the few renditions of the Bach Suites which balances the joie de vivre of the dance sections with the sober slow movements with equal poise. It's refreshing to see an approach that doesn't lean too far either to the overly-reverent scholarly side or the idiosyncratically stylized side... I've waited for Isserlis to record these Suites for a long time, and it was well worth the wait.

Affordable DAC

Hi. So i have finally put together my first system, and am looking for advice on a digital/analog converter so that i can play the majority of my music collection through my new set-up. I am using a rotel rb-1080 power amp, and a rc-1082 preamp to power my infinity intermezzos. From what i understand my airport express had a sp/dif output, and all I need at this point for quality audio is the digital/analog converter to bring the music to the preamp. Any suggestions? From what I have seen these seem to be quite expensive and was looking for an affordable alternative. Thanks!

what's the difference between clearaudio basic/basic plus?

i'm thinking of trying out a dedicated phono stage preamp to go along with the champion w/unify tone arm thats on it's way to my home. I recently came across a used clearaudio basic and was wondering what changes, if any, there have been between the basic and basic plus now offered by clearaudio? and of any of those changes make for major improvements that shouldnt be missed regardless of the deal i might be able to get on a used piece of equipment that been treated well?

thanks,

this is my first post here, i hope i've gone about it the right way.

Hey Stereophile

Serious consideration ought be given to shutting down this failed experiment.

Obviously there are insufficient resources to nurture it into something that would attract increasing membership and one must question its comic relief value as source material for the (forums) Administrator's blog.

As things stand... as amply demonstrated by the recent music to listen to while watching porn thread, and of course the nonstop rants of the dememted DUP... it is little more than the private playpen for some weird individuals.

Need amp reccommendation

I have a Rotel 972 preamp, and Diamond Wharfdale speakers (first version) Also a Cambridge Soundworks subwoofer (which one day I hope to replace with a REl T3)

I'm looking for good used amp on ebay. (I'm trying to spend under $150 including shipping)

Lots of Adcom 5300 & 535 available
Also a Rotel RB 970bx, & 951 (980 cost too much)
Sometimes a rotel 850 or 870 pops up

I have also considered spending more for a newer rotel like the 1050, about $300 is that worth it?

Just got a new amp and things sounds worse?

I have a Rotel preamp 972, and diamond wharfdale (orginal version) speakers. And a old cambridge soundworks powered sub.

I have been running everything of the sub, until one of the speaker clips broke. Thinking I would make everything way better I just bought a used Adcom gfa 5300 for $100 on ebay.

But now things sound a little muddy, and covered. What gives? Do I need better speaker wires or interconnects? Or a different amp?

FYI- I use now have to use both outputs on the pre amp (one for sub & one for adcom, could that effect the sound?)
