As I write, it is garage-sale season here again in Santa Fe, and a recent sign near my home advertised "Over 3000 LPs, good condition, low prices." To my surprise, the seller wasn't a yuppie enamored of his new CD player but a true collector discarding the duplicates and dogs from his collection. 30 minutes later, many LPs heavier—including a mint Flanders & Swan At the Drop of a Hat (footnote 1)—and not too many dollars lighter, I returned to a great night's listening courtesy of the black vinyl disc.

Louis Armstrong's Mix-Tape Art

Louis Armstrong's Mix-Tape Art

When I visited The Louis Armstrong Archives a few years ago to visit archivist Michael Cogswell, Cogswell escorted me back into the stacks to show me Armstrong's collection of 650 open-reel tapes, almost all of which sported collages assembled by the great trumpeter. More than touching his trumpet, I felt a direct connection to Armstrong viewing (and hearing) his mix tapes—Satchmo was one of us!

What's that $30 SACD or LP worth

As used? About ZIP!!! Unless it's an Elvis promo LP from some radio staion, that no one has, LP's are worthless as are even CD's or SACDs wow, they get $4. After you paid how much....Yeah those "audiophile" Lps what a deal. I guess it's better to just keep em and use em....so the next time you buy some used LP's at a used LP store, look what they paid for those "valuable" pieces of plastic.

"Making Available": It's All Over—or Is It?

On June 11, Recording Industry vs the People, Ray Beckerman's popular blogspot site covering the recording industry's ongoing series of litigations, revealed that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) had voluntarily and "without prejudice" filed a motion on May 27 to dismiss its ongoing complaint, Warner v Cassin, which maintained that posting files to a peer-to-peer network was distribution of those files, whether or not actual distribution occurred. This is known in copyright law as "making available."

Sell the BRAND not teh PRODUCT!!

Yeah, that's the trouble, if ya got crap in a box, it'll sell to the gullible. This truly explains the concpet of BS marketing and selling shit in a fancy box, at high prices.. They use the Benz logo to justify it? What an insult to Benz, who has a 100+ year old history of inovations, and QUALITY. Are they authorized to use that logo on their site? I think they should PAY Benz a fee, just like these guys take a fee to do stuff? Don't they get their own business, of hype and marketing, how dare they use such a QUALITY world wide brand to shill some audio BS. IMHO of course.
