I was looking to upgrade the NAD PP2 I'm currently using with my Rega P2, that has an Elys 2 cartridge, and is feeding a NAD C352. I wanted to know which preamps to look at in the $200-$400 range. The PP2 sounds pretty good but I'm feeling, sometimes, it is somewhat underpowered.
I was looking and the Bellari VP129 tube that seemed to get a lot of good reviews. I don't know if that would be a deal, or if I could do better. I listen to mostly rock, but some classical as well.
Thanks for any advice.
There was a posting on Twice this morning about a panel discussion on the potential and challenges for the audio industry at the Digital Downtown show put on by CEA last weekend in NYC. Did any of you happen to attend? One of the interesting challenges discussed at this panel was how to raise market awareness of audio quality.
There are an increasing number of articles on the Web regarding cables/speaker wire and their sonic properties. Combine this with some "blind" listening sessions (like the one substituting a coat hanger) and any sensible person has reason to pause. Do you find yourself more dubious about manufacturers' performance claims? Has this affected your spending habits?
Man, Charles Wuorinen has been commissioned to write the opera to Annie Proulx's short story, "Brokeback Mtn.," made famous by Ang Lee's film adaptation, of course. Scheduled to open in 2013 in New York. Hopefully, the score can reflect the emotional reticence of the original short story well; opera doesn't seem like the best medium for this type of story, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong...
