After using Bel Canto's e.One DAC3 with the McIntosh Laboratory MS750 music server, I was so impressed that I wanted to hear Bel Canto's CD transports as well. But willing as Bel Canto president and CEO John Stronczer was to supply me with a CD-2, he suggested I audition the S300iu ($2195, footnote 1).

Classroom music systems

Since I have spent this last year teaching math and coaching football, basketball, and baseball at the middle school level one audio issue has come to light. I am doing my part to fix it.

Most teachers are doing a lot of multimedia presentations in the classroom these days. This requires a decent video source, but it always seems that audio is short changed.

We have teachers who have large televisions and even LCD projectors in their classrooms. There are even extra projectors for teachers to borrow that at avaialble from the media center/library for check out.

Not quite sure where to put this one....Peter and the Commissar

Well, last week I was loaned Peter and the Commissar, a production by Allan Sherman and the Boston Pops, for me to listen to.

I threw it on this morning, and I have to say that this is one of the funniest things that I have ever heard in my life!

Although it is VERY noisy (missing the inner sleeve missing and not well taken care of), the sonics are OUTSTANDING...this is also the first time that I can remember hearing a Living Stereo pressing....

Highly Recommended. It also pokes fun at bureaucracy

How to determine what is needed - and can you have too much?

I'm looking at acoustic treatments for my office, which doubles as a DAW music room and home of my latest stereo acquisition.

The engineer in me thinks I should precisely test my room and figure out if I have acoustic issues. Then I should "fix" the issues via specific measures.

The engineer in me thinks that to accurately measure the acoustic characteristics of my room will take a significant investment of time and money. (How accurate can a Radio Shack microphone recorded via a Sound Blaster be...) (Ok, I have better recording gear than that, but the point remains.)
