Ebay, Store & Vinyl

Hi,

A few weeks ago I was feeling stressed and generally in need of cheering up. Well i spent a few hours on ebay and visiting a local store beverly records. The point of this exercise was to purchase vinyl for my recent revival, however this vinyl was not purchsed with any view to the musical quality it was strictly purchased on emotion and memories of teenage days playing records on a cheap old record player.

starting from scratch, need ideas for a simple setup

I'm coming from an engineering/production realm but actually know little about the brands of receivers and speakers for home entertainment.

I live in an apartment so space is kind of an issue. I'm thinking bookshelf speakers or slimmer standing. Basically this set up will be used from everything. Movies, music listening from vinyl and cds, games, etc. Price is flexible but definitely on the budget side. I'm thinking around $400 for the reciever and $600-$800 for speakers. I have a TT, cd player, dvd player etc. and I'll need to get cabling, but I can figure that out.

Stereophile Review of Boulder 1060

Forums

I believe ST reviewed the Boulder 1060 in the Nov 2000 issue. Unfortunately I had to give away all my Stereophile back issues in conjunction with an international house move and the Back Issues service only seems to go back to Jan 2005. Is there any way to get hold of that issue, or even just a copy of that review?

integrated amp?

Hi! I just bought a pair of Martin Logan Fresco i and a Dynamo subwoofer. I am planning on using them for a home theater with a Pioneer 50 inch plasma. I also have a Marantz 9600DVD player. Do I need to have a separate amp and receiver? Anybody can recommend me an integrated that will help me run the speakers and subwoofer? Any comments? THANKS!!!!!

Not Quite What I Expected

Not Quite What I Expected

I don't quite know what I expected, but YGA's "factory" was not what I expected. I put factory in quotes because that sounds all automated and industrial, whereas YG's speakers are essentially built by hand. The speakers are constructed of aircraft grade 6061 T651 aluminum and the baffles are milled out of ballistic-grade aluminum/titanium alloy. On the day I arrived, the factory was being prepped for the delivery of a huge CNC station and a ceiling-mounted crane system to move large sheets of stock from station to station. At the moment, large panels are turned into speaker-sized parts by an outside contractor, but Geva prefers to do everything in-house so that he can assure himself that things are done to his specifications.

Accuracy!

Accuracy!

Geva believes that measurements don't lie—well, he allows that they can fib, but that a competent engineer should be able to interpret them with great accuracy. He uses aluminum and ballistic allow instead of wood or MDF, he said, because they are the "most resonant free, deadest, stiffest, strongest, least diffractive, and most sonically desirable materials ever found."
