Any difference that is at all audible must be treated as though it is huge!" John Atkinson declaimed, as Tom Norton and I rolled on the floor laughing. It was a slow day around the Stereophile offices, and the startlingly huge differences that our colleague was describing did strike us as rather piddling—so John began stentorophonically reciting rules from a mythical Guidebook for Audio Reviewers to gales of laughter all around.

Prime Time-Eric Alexander Quartet in Concert

Forums

High Note records has quietly been issuing some great music and signing some really good artist. This CD/DVD was recorded live and it is one of Mr Alexanders best work. The first thing you'll notice is that the recording is excellent and balanced almost like it was recorded in a studio. There is absolutely no background audience noise. The performance also deserves raves; Mr Alexander plays with intensity yet he seems to know when he is getting too far out on a limb and restrains himself from free form playing resulting in a jazz session that is a pleasure to listen to.

Question about noise from my cartridge

Hi, I just bought my first turntable (Denon DP-300F) but I think there's something wrong with my cartridge (besides the fact that it's mediocre).

I'm using the Denon MM cartridge that came with the turntable, but I've noticed that whenever I play anything, I also hear a tinny version of the music echoing from the cartridge itself. I followed the instructions pretty well when balancing the tone arm and the tracking weight and everything...

Sugar Man

Sugar Man

Cold Fact, the recently unearthed 1960's psychedelic folk album from obscure Detroit songwriter, Sixto Rodriguez, has been pretty much everywhere these days. Last week, in fact, I walked by John Atkinson's office to hear him blasting the outstanding opening track, "Sugar Man."

Bonus Material

Bonus Material

The vinyl is packed with a bonus 45, excellent liner notes, and a very cool poster. My only problem is I can't decide whether to hang the poster on my wall or keep it tucked nicely with the vinyl.
