New Cart = Surface Noise?

I just got a new cartridge - and I'm very excited. After taking care of some feedback (loose wire), I'm getting some more surface noise than I did on my old cart. This is mostly light popping and it sounds like static discharge.
First, can improper alignment cause this? Or can new carts do that before break-in? If not - what else could this be?

Question - Which of these two speakers, TSi400 / RTi10 from Polk, would you recommend? I can get both for around the same price. My amp is a Onkyo TX-SR606 rated at 90 Watts per channel. Usage will be primarily movies as well as occasional music. I have additional center, surrounds and subwoofer already selected, but would like an opinion on these two.

For a residential envrioament!!! Commercial grade doesn't go for that much!!! too bad he doesn't understand NEC requirments!! You cannot install a 20A receptale on a 15 A ckt!! What a maroon. You can install 15a DUplex on a 20a ckt look at kitchen counter ckts. And of course he claimes the body/housing makes things sound better!!! this is teh kind of nonsense that is in audiophile village, village of nudnicks. UL doesn't "approve" anything, they LIST for a specific use. another gaff by the marketeers of nonsense.
