"Shake it off!"

Hola,

Question:

You play a recording and it sounds TERRIBLE!

After you pull it off the turntable, out of the CD tray, away from the 8-track player, or yank it out of your cassette deck, how do you re-set?

Back story:

Yesterday, went to melody Records and found a clencleanclean copy of Aja, and since my records are 600 miles away, I shot 2 bucks into Donald Fagen's pocket and took her home and cleaned her up and had my way with her.

But, I digress.

Interconnects (TV to Preamp)

I have been out of the loop for quite a while so I need to lean on you guys for some advice. I need some recommendations on interconnects from a new plasma HDTV to a Audio Research SP-16 preamp. Since neither my TV nor my DVD player are my main source of audio enjoyment, I want to keep the price reasonable. MonoPrice, Blue Jeans, etc.??

Thanks for your help.

More 'Bits is Bits' wierdness

As I have posted, I recently bought a Benchmark DAC1 that I like a lot. I first tried a cheap Philips DVD player as a source and that sounded awful. I broke out a old and quirky Optimus portable CD player with digital out and got very good sound, but the player was in the habit of stopping without notice or reason and all the options like track selection no longer worked so it was not a long term solution. It gave me a good soundstage and very clear highs, something I really liked. I bought a used Rotel 1070 to use as a transport and that has a completey different sound.

WTF!? How stupid and annoying is it that they hype this big 50 years of music book/package prominently featuring a RECORD being played, and they give you music collection on a USB driver?!!!!

And obviously it's lossy MP3s seeing as how it's 21 hours of music and they don't make 20GB USB thumb drives for under a couple hundred dollars. They have a lesser CD version it looks like too.

The Time is Now!

The Time is Now!

One night last week, a bout of channel surfing brought me to the Grammy nomination concert. Not the Grammys mind you, that’s in February, but a televised special to announce the nominations. And only the nominations of the celebrity—driven stuff like Best New Artist which is when LL Cool J, who was hosting, walked across the front of the auditorium and ask the Jonas Brothers how it felt to be nominated. As the bile rose in my throat I changed the channel. I found it to be very strange that this was proceeded by a showing of the venerable 1964 stop motion animation special, Rudolph, The Red—Nosed Reindeer which is narrated by Burl Ives and contains a couple of indelible toon icons in the prospector Yukon Cornelius and a Yeti called a “bumble.”
