I am interested in understanding some facts about these older tube preamps....compared to tube preamps made in the 80's and 90's from ARC, CJ, Quicksilver, etc how does the sound of the older tube Macintosh preamps compare, assuming the units are functioning up to spec? Were tube preamps in the 60's designed and engineered significantly different than preamps in the 80's and 90's? Were engineering and design improvements made in the 80's and 90's to the point of noticeable sound improvement?
Thank you.
Ruben
Dude, check it out. All of their items - including speakers, cables, carts, etc. - are at LEAST 40% off for 1 day. I took advantage and ordered the Grade 2 Prime, 0.1% tolerance version of their Denon 103 mod, which retails for $700. With the 45% off, it's $384, not bad! Their Druid speakers are also 45% off, so you can get brand new ones, whcih retail for $3400, for just $1870, lower than Audiogon prices. I think the sale is effective only for today...
Please excuse my complete ignorance here. I'm putting together a stereo system which is an upgrade from my college years system.
This is the first turntable that I have owned where I had to install a cartridge and balance the tone arm. I understand this is supposed to be a simple procedure, but I am completely mystified.
Starting to look at isolation tweaks now that I've got the core of my system straightened out.
Any opinions on SDS Isofeet? These seem like a good cheap way to start. Rollerblocks are the far more expensive tweak I'm thinking about based on the recent TAS mention.
So, right now I'm thinking I'll get the isofeet and then consider adding the rollerblocks for the cdp. The isofeet come in 3" squares. I'm planning on ordering one set and cutting them down to 1.5" squares to it'll supply my cdp and both speakers.
I recently purchased an Onkyo 875 for my Home Theater system. I currently have a pair of Mirage M1 towers being driven by an Aragon 4004 amp for audio listening. I would like to incorporate the Mirages as the front speakers in my surround sound system but I don't see a way to connect an external amplifier (the Aragon) to the Onkyo. The Onkyo has a "Pre-amp Out" but it is all (7.1) or nothing. I want the Onkyo to drive all of the other speakers directly but I'm afraid the 140W out of the Onkyo won't be enough to drive the Mirages so that's where the Aragon comes in.
Don't ask me what the lyrics mean but it sure is a wicked cool video. Check it out here.
