Xmas R.I.P.

Sorry to be a humbug, but it seems that Christmas is becoming a magnet for musician death. This year Eartha Kitt, Robert Ward and Freddie Hubbard all expired around the holiday.

Rotel RA-05

Hi everyone,

I a, buying a new system, and have decided on the B & W 685s for speakers, and am leaning towards either the Rotel RA-05 or the Cambridge Audio 640A V2 for the amp.

I wonder does anyone have any experience/opinions as to which would be the better choice of AMP and why?

thanks a lot!

Great Expectations for CES and T.H.E. Show

Great Expectations for CES and T.H.E. Show

Given the state of the economy, speculation abounds concerning major declines in the numbers of exhibitors and attendees at this year's audio/video shows in Las Vegas. If the advance numbers can be trusted, however, that will be anything but the case this January 8–11, when the high-end audio exhibits of both the Consumer Electronics Show and T.H.E. Show will be open.

Bass cone flap

Forums

Hi

I recently added PS audio phone stage to my system which has once and for all solved any front end gain issues !! this phono amp has added fantastic dynamics to the system. The problem is that it might have added a little to much !!

The problem i have now though is that on very heavy bass tracks im causing the speaker cones to bottom out and start basically flapping. This is happening at loudish but certainly not ridculous volume levels. It is admittedly severe tracks like 1812 cannons etc thats doing it.

Insurance?

As I'm starting to acquire audio gear and a music collection that total thousands of dollars (and a great percentage of my disposable income), I'm starting to think about insurance. Like many NYC dwellers, I rent an apartment. Does anyone know whether some kind of renters insurance would cover my gear and/or music?
