This is a diverse group. In my apartment system, I have been fighting the Sony SCD-777ES and Meridian 508-24 for years. Both have been sent back to whence they came for repairs of the lens/tracking systems. Yet, both repeatedly fall back into their old habits -- "No Disc," says the Sony, when presented with SACD platters, and "zzzzzztttttttssqqqkkkkkk -- game over," sputters the Meridian, when fed ANY CD it doesn't feel like eating at the moment.

I have to say that it was a real pleasure reading John Mark's column but I do have a few thoughts. According to the article the average Stereophile reader spends $12-$15K on a system. While that may not seem like a lot of money to some I can assure you that I believe it's a hell of a lot of money. Anyone that can spend that much is surely blessed! However one surely have a great system for a lot less. The Paradigm Studio 100 speakers that I have continue to astound me with their sound both range and depth.
Starts April 3rd in Montreal, is now called SSI, so actually SSI 2009. We just shipped out 3 pallets of new gear to the show. So do drop by to see and hear some excellent Hi-End audio that fits in any budget. Please bring some of your favourite music to listen to, I get really bored of the audiophile demo music and Rachel won't let me play my music

A minor point, but Fremer says that conventional phono preamps are disqualified from this digital RIAA curve thing because they all do RIAA.
But the popular Bellari VP530 actually has a button that toggles RIAA EQ (i.e. you can turn it off and feed the non-EQ'd signal to your computer via USB or the RCA outs). Minor point, but could be useful if you're wanting to go that route.
