sound insulation for apartment living

Hi,

I am moving into an apartment, having previously lived in a detached house, and I'm concerned that I won't be able to crank out the tunes at the volume I'd like.

So I'm thinking of ways in which to isolate the sound in my living room, that doesnt require any major expense or structural work, since its just a rental.

Additionally I want to the solution to take up as little space as possible, since its not a huge apartment.

My initial thought is to maybe hang carpets on the walls, as I heard that this has quite a good effect.

DVD-A on Hard Disk

With all the talk of hi-rez downloads and playback from hard disk, I beg this question: why hasn't anyone ripped DVD-A to hard disk and compared that to CD signals driven from the same server ?

True, DVD-A was encrypted...but this was overcome years ago. Why did we wait for HD Tracks to hear disk-driven hi-rez music ?

OOOH! That's got to be embarrassing II
