Floods: Transmission

Floods: Transmission

I think it's time to talk about Floods' <i>Transmission</i>, as the album is now almost a year old. It was released on August 8, 2008. I know this album very well because I'm one of Floods' two band members. I played a lot of guitar for <i>Transmission</i> and even sang a little bit, while my good friend, Brother Todd, handled the synths, programming, and editing. We shared arrangement duties and we never fought about anything, I swear.

Morning

Morning

I woke up this morning with the sun in my face and Heather Duby's "<a href="http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/031908heatherduby/">Places Shape Lives</a>" churning through my mind. I heard the old moan of cello and the aching melody, the hypnotic precision of the just-tuned drums, the constant trembling of the strangled guitar, and I knew it would be a good day.

A headphones dilemma...

Greetings all, I'm a newbie in the world of stereophile in search of wise guidances. Recently been planning to upgrade my cans but can't decide between two choices: AKG K601 and Grado SR80I. I mostly listen to MP3/AAC files from my laptop/MP3 player and my only headphone amp currently is the budget Fiio E5 (will try to upgrade this to Graham Slee Voyager when my budget allowed...). Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks

Cheap box sets

Forums

We have an FYE in the mall in my small town, and twice in the last few months I've found what looks to be remaindered Milestone/Prestige/Contemporary box sets dirt cheap.

I got Art Pepper's 'Complete Village Vanguard Sessions' for $29 bucks a while back, and just today found Joe Henderson's 8 cd 'Milestone Years' for the same price.

FYE really doesn't carry jazz, so I have to believe this is some kind of warehouse or distributor dump. If you have one near, you might want to check it out.

Elvis - 'Complete' 68 Comeback on cd

I've owned 'Memories:The 68 Comeback Special' two cd set for a couple of years now, but had no idea RCA put out a four cd set last August that has both sitdown/standup shows complete, plus both rehearsals.

I immediately bought it, and I gotta say that even if you're not an Elvis completist or obsessive, the big set is worth owning. I'd put the comeback special as one of the three or four greatest moments evah in popular music, and - unlike some albums where every new scrap makes the original seem less, not more - the expanded album is just better.

Wye Oak

Wye Oak

Wye Oak is a sort of American folk duo. Andy Stack plays drums and keys (at the same time), while Jenn Wasner sings and absolutely wails on the guitar. This is a video for their song, "Please Concrete," from their 2008 debut <i>If Children</i>.

JA Please Interpret: Focal 1037 Be Frequency Response w/ Moscode 401HR Amp

Forums

I am considering purchasing the 1037's after hearing them at a shop. I already own a Moscode 401HR amp, and I wonder how the two measurement related comments below will affect the sound? The last thing I want is an amp/speaker combo that accentuates highs. I am selling my current speakers because I find them too bright for my tastes.
