On this auspicious date...September 9, 2009, I am reminded of a joke about 'nine.'
A soccer team made up of an inoffensive mix of men from wherever in the world they don't don't get offended by jokes is in Germany.
They come across a frisky lass, and through an unfortunate series of misunderstanings, the soccer players begin having sex with her, which is at odds with her actual expectation bias at the time.
She yells, "Nein! Nein!"
So, two of the guys leave.

About two months ago I finally got around to upgrading my home theater system to high definition. I purchased an LG 47" lcd HDTV along with an Oppo BDP-83 Bluray disc player and added a high definition DVR cable receiver. All in all a very worthwhile and long overdue upgrade. While having an HDTV and plenty of high definition channels to watch is great it is really the Oppo BDP-83 that is the star of the whole system.

CD Filter Question: Ayre vs. Meridian

Since several Stereophile reviewers use Ayre as their reference and Meridian has been declared "BEST" by the audio press (without comparing to the new Ayre), I was wondering if someone could please explain the difference between the filters the companies use. They are both based on the same technical paper as I understand. What are the similarities/ differences? Do the Boulder and DCS, which were recently reviewed, also use this? Thx!

I got a panasonic rd 2900 turntable, was wondering if anybody knew anything about this table. Some albums sound good and others the sound is harsh.
Would also like some recommedations on either used or new table for 3 to 4 hundred bucks. Any info would be appreciated. I am new to vinyl and would like to get the most of my system.

This is perhaps the number one threat to the country right now, the only one that could kill off 90% of the population in a year. Kills stereo as well

What if you can't audition?

Do any of you ever decide to buy major components of your audio systems without auditioning it? I'm tempted to buy a piece of equipment based solely on reviews and comments of others. The reason is that the manufacturer has no dealers in my state (Texas). There is nowhere I can go to audition the equipment.
I may ask the manufacturer if I can return the unit if I purchase it and find out that I'm not satisfied with it.
Have any of you ever done something like that? What kind of experience was it for you? Would you do it again?

I have little over 37 years behind me now, and 7 of them I subscribed to Stereophile. My English is not that good, and remember the first years, Stereophile was quite difficult to read.
I want to thank Stereophile for being the most serious of all the hi-if mags.. I know about. Thanks to Stereophile I
finaly have sound that I tought was almost impossible to reach, at least for the money I can spend on it. The travel to that sound was difficult, and sometimes very confusing. If it was not for Stereophile I would probably have given up long time ago.
