Although it was Thomas Edison who set the tone for technological development in the 20th century, with his intellectual sweatshop in New Jersey, it is the lone inventor who has always had a special place in the heart of the American public. Since the days of Samuel Colt, Eli Whitney, and Nikola Tesla, fortune and fame have awaited the genius tinkerer who emerges from his back yard with a better mousetrap, cotton gin, etc., etc.

Lufthansa Business class sale/ living large for once

I go to Germany every summer to teach at a Classical Guitar festival.
I got an email from Lufthansa re the sale.

Dallas to Dusseldorf in August (high season) for 2,300.
To put this in perspective, Luft. has no 1st class on these flights cause their Bus. class is just as good:
Motorized seats with massage that make into a bed.

More copper to the speakers - not necessarily better

As I have mentioned in another thread, I have recently gone from having lots of gauge to much less from my amp speaker terminals to my speakers. My reason for doing so was that the two (different brand) cables, even though the exact same length, did not sound the same. I listened carefully before changing the cables, in order to compare them. One (unnamed multi-strand 7*AWG22) cable smeared the HF, and the other (unnamed solid core AWG18) was a born bi-wiring cable, which provided a better soundstage, LF and HF. Together the two cables provided good LF but a smeared soundstage.

Vegas and the Super Bowl.

One of the daddies in my wife's mommies group is an oddsmaker for a sports book in town.

In general, oddsmakers establish a betting point for an event that will generate as close to equal betting on either side of a proposition - and the house makes money from what they rake rather than making money by betting against a given outcome. Less risk that way.

He's been watching the betting on the Super Bowl and says that there is a huge load of small action on the Colts, but right now the focused, large bets arfe being laid down for the Saints.

Katy Perry Unplugged

Innocently channel surfing the other day I stumbled upon Katy Perry's recently released unplugged performance.

Not really a huge pop music lover, but this performance is a very intimate one and of course being MTV Unplugged acoustic in nature.

I picked up the cd/dvd combo at the local Best Buy for $11.99 and highly recommend it even if you don't like pop music. It is a very emotional involving performance.
