Hazardous Duty

Yesterday, Tiger Woods withdrew from the Players' Championship, a very prestigious event, because of persistent pain originating in his neck and extending down through his fingertips. Anybody who has seen Tiger go through a golf ball will understand how the violence of the move might cause problems, especially with that remarkably steady head position while shoulders, arms, and legs are unwinding with obvious force. I wasn't there, at Sawgrass, but TV is convincing enough these days, what with super slow motion and such.

My kid is playing the song "Ironman" on his guitar, which reminds me...

For all you old Sabbath fans:

Ironman...

That's right, freakin' steel!!! Dammit.

By all rights, he is Steelman, not Ironman.

Piss me off.

Oh, and another thing, Wallflowers fans...

"I turn the engine but the engine doesn't turn."

Well, Jacob Dylan, then you DIDN'T turn the engine.

Oh, and Doobie Brothers...catfish are NOT jumpin'.

Power Cables, Bloody Treble & Old Ears

Greetings from an oldie, but newbie to the Forums. Thanks for having me. I like being had. (He exclaimed, after purchasing a $100,000 power cable.)

JGH and his ad-free, 20 page, colorful, black & white, booklet sized magazines had me hooked early, but I still don't comprehend the science behind power cables. Back in the 70's even signal and speaker cables were viewed with suspicion, but science did eventually come to the rescue.

Focal Electra 906? any good

Hi,
I am just changing my system to a 5.1 and have trouble to choose the right speakers. I already purchased the amp, a ARCAM DIVA 350. I am using it in combination with some Acoustic Energy I mk II and it sounds really nice for Stereo Purpose. As I want to keep my current speakers, I am looking to by a new front set up and put the AE 1 as rear speakers (maybe a shame but let see). I found a good deal for some Focal Electra 906 and read some good reviews on them ( the deal also includes the Focal cc900 for center speaker).

Every audiophile is born sometime, somewhere. My audio birth happened on a family visit to my Uncle John's house, when he played Information Society's "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" through his brand-new Klipsch Heresy IIs. Uncle John did three things at this listening session that turned 12-year-old me into the audiophile I am today: he played music I liked, he played it really loud, and afterward, he took the time to explain how his system worked and why it sounded so good. His Klipsches were powered by Nelson Pass–influenced Nakamichi gear—I'd never before heard speakers play music with such ease or such startling dynamics. I was immediately hooked. In many ways, nothing I've heard since that day has impressed me as much, or been as revelatory of what home audio can do. That single experience set me on a path of caring about re-creating musical performances in my own home.
