Devialet D-Premier

OK Struts you finally managed to cajole me into posting and I hope the following helps

One of the unfortunate difficulties with the audio hobby is the continental divide between America and Europe, and also Asia-Japan.
This divide can make it incredibly difficult to hear or even purchase some of the great products to emerge in their respective regions, and for some the Devialet will unfortunately be one of those products for those in the USA for now.

"Reviewed in the box!" is what <I>Stereophile</I>'s founder, the late <A HREF="http://www.stereophile.com/news/j_gordon_holt">J. Gordon Holt</A>, used to call it. You might think you're reading a review, but the realization slowly dawns that there's nothing in the text that could not have been gleaned from the manufacturer's brochure, nothing to indicate that the writer had even opened the box the product came in. When I read a review in another publication or online, I judge it by doing what I recommend <I>Stereophile</I>'s readers do when they read <I>this</I> magazine: I look for the nugget I <I>didn't</I> already know, the facet I <I>wasn't</I> expecting, the concluding jewel I <I>couldn't</I> have predicted without ever having tried the component myself. Sadly, all too often too many of what are promoted as "reviews" on the Web are merely descriptions.

Worth checking out: Baptiste Trotignon

Forums

Baptiste Trotignon is a young French piano who is presently poised on the edge of a major breakthrough as "the next big thing" in jazz and is talented and creative enough to be worthy of the title. I strongly suggest that you give his music a listen. Here's a link to help get you started: Baptiste Trotignon

Trotignon latest release "Suite" could well be the jazz album of the year.

My One and Only Prayer

My One and Only Prayer

I did not find what I was looking for at <a href="http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/jersey_city_record_riot/">the Jersey City Record Riot</a>, but I did find two reasonably priced Tom Waits albums (<i>Blue Valentine</i> and <i>Rain Dogs</i>) and Peter Lang’s debut, <i>The Thing at the Nursery Room Window</i>, on John Fahey’s Takoma label. I had forced myself to be extremely selective, and, though the many kind and interesting vendors were making it difficult for me to hold back from buying more, I did in fact hold back.

Successful tweaking leads to more clarity

After having:

1) changed speaker cables
2) changed speakers
3) angled my speakers carefully, both horisontally and vertically
4) placed heavy weights on top of speakers
5) added Nano-Pads under my speakers
6) added Nano-Pads under my CDP
7) changed interconnects between CDP and AMP
8) added great power cable to my CDP and AMP
9) burned cables and speakers somewhat in
10) filed the tip off my cantilever
11) added DIY bass traps and absorption to the corners/walls
