Buidling a Stereo Setup for Music

I am looking to build my first stereo setup for a medium sized room (roughly 15x15). The system is primarily for music, input from both ipod and laptop. I would like to keep my total budget around $1000 total for everything (speakers, receiver, cables, stands, etc.) Also, while I may have interest in adding a sub woofer down the line, for the moment, I will not be using one.

August Issue: JMR As We See It (Excellent) Hi-Rez

It is a great article and hopefully will push more audiophiles in the 24/96 camp as the wide range of hardware seems to be coming from everywhere.

I have chosen to go the less expensive route with my use of the $40 Audio DVD Creator program (downloadable)that allows you to create/burn 2496 tracks on DVD+Rs as pcm files that are playable on "just about any" 2496 capable DVD player. So far I have only had one friend have a disc not play on one of his players. It even creates PAL discs for the European market that have played without a hitch.

Laurie Anderson - Homeland

The new Laurie Anderson CD "Homeland" is just filled with surprises. Sure the music is what one might expect from Ms. Anderson but it's the lyrics that hold all the fun and games on this release. Anderson takes a long hard look at the state of the United States and what she sees isn't very pretty.

Here are a few licks to give you some idea of what I'm talking about.

Why bother with three phono preamps most of us can't afford? For the same reason the enthusiast automobile magazines cover the newest Ferraris and Lamborghinis: just reading about them is fun.
