Cofounder of seminal rock band Little Feat, Richie Hayward died today of complications from liver cancer. Not having health insurance, he had moved to Canada (his wife was Canadian) but the end was sadly inevitable.
Hayward was one of the most intelligent drummers in rock, combining power, drive, with imagination. You can find a December 2000 review I wrote of a Little Feat anthology at http://www.stereophile.com/recordingofthemonth/402/ .

Cerwin-Vega has the dubious honor of having their loudspeakers causing an audio journalist literally to throw up. It was at a UK Show dem in 1977. The company played the music so loud, and with such stomach-churning low frequencies, that one writer in the room reacted in the manner described.

I agree with Paul Messenger's comments on the reason for the failure of the SACD format but I must note, another obvious reason.
I, after a good bit of saving, bought a Sony SACD unit when the price dropped below $1000. I also promptly bought a half dozen disks...ALL well recorded dross by 3rd rate artists.
Every single SACD disk I bought over the next 6 months was the same...
I gave up and gladly went back to CD. I realize much has changed over the last decade but it is far too late to save that format.
Hi there all,
so, it seems i'm slowly becoming an audiophile too.......and being a new one i would kindy need your feedback/help on a couple of component i should go for, to optimize the home audio system i have in mind....
Basically i am storing and listening my music from my macbook pro/itunes at 259/320 kbps mp3.
My idea is to have a simple, but hi-fi/optimized system accordingly.
Please bear with me and if i write in a simple and perhaps wrong form, as i am somehow new to this audiophile world...
