Need some help on a older pair of Bozaks. I'm trying to rebuild them and it seems they have different speakers. I'll post a picture somewhere on this website. I put it under DIY projects. One speaker has a Mallory 50VDC going between the woofer and the mid range. The other does not. Do I need to find one of these to add? Also the speaker on the right seems to be missing a mounting ring. And what would I use for baffle material? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!! Andy
I am considering upgrading my Marantz CD5000 CD player. One way is to go for a new CD player (Primare CD21 and Rotel RCD 1072 are strong favorites).
The other option is to buy a new external DAC and use the Marantz as a transport. Prospective candidates are Musical Fidelity X-DACv3 and North Star 192 DAC.
My final decision will (should) be based on the listening test, but I expect trouble getting the samples for home auditioning.
I'd like to hear/read opinions of more experienced people. Any other suggestions are also welcome.
Thnx!
As much as I admire John's work, this piece seems only the latest episode in an ongoing quest, on the part of editors and reviewers at most "audiophile" magazines and web-sites. We all sense the value of our product (music in the home, at the highest affordable level of quality), and we tend to be evangelical about it. Commercially, the industry needs constant infusions of new blood, as the threat of death by gentrification is a much-discussed fear among those at the business end of things.
