In the old days you could walk into record stores with little booths that you could go into and listen to samples of various records. The people that worked there were actually experts that could help you decide what performance of a classical piece was better. I miss record stores that sold cds (like tower records) where you could actually go into and browse for an hour or so before making your purchase. It was a fun thing to do.

hey all, my name is Luke Richard and i am young eager audiophile enthusiast. Over the past couple years i have been soaking up as much info from the net and various sources as possible regarding audio electronics and loudspeaker design and technology. Recently i have embarked on my own loudspeaker design and construction project using MK drivers from an old pair of S-85 bookshelf speakers.

Hola,
We seem to have quite an array of opinions about when a certain component becomes "stupidly overpriced" vs. a "real world value."
As an audiophile, I find that many non-audiophiles find ANY audio expense to be "stupid expensive." So, I know we are in a fringe group just by being here!
You'd think within our hobby, we could at least not have that issue to contend with, but we do!
I'm curious as to what price point, for you, do components cross over from acceptably priced vs. over-priced or "worthy of criticism."
I got my tube monoblocks back from Blackie Pagano yesterday. The total damage was $827.04. It was worth every penny, and then some.
