Today's NY Times (12/16) has a sarcastic capsule review of the Parasound Halo JC3 phonostage. Normally I would ignore this sort of thing from "the newspaper of record" but the reviewer, Stephen Williams, concludes with this:
"It is also, of course, part of a never-ending chase that defines audiophilia. After all, if you were ever to attain the perfect sound, your hobby would be over."
No sir, you are wrong. The hobby is listening to music not collecting components. The closer we get to the (unobtainable) "perfect sound," the more rewarding the hobby becomes.
Hi,
I just bought a moon 700i Integrated amp.and only since then, I can ear a little noise (zzzzzz) when I am within 6 inch of the tweeter (both side). My speakers are Focal Alto Utopia, that I bought 1.5 year ago
I can ear the noise when there is no music playing or when the amp is at standby.
The shop who sold me the amp is telling me this is normal with this kind of equipment, the amp is so sensible and tightly built. Apparently, they also called Moon and the confirm that it is normal.
Hey guys! i'm new to these audio stuff. So i was wondering if anyone would help me out? i'm looking for good computer sound system for the price of $500. I am not an avid gamer but i do play games. However, i do listen to A LOT of music, mostly metal, rock and blues. Basically, more emphasis is on music than gaming. Thx a lot guys. Really appreciate all your inputs. And Merry Christmas to all! =D
I am playing with my iMAC. I seldom use it as the rest of my computers are PC's. I have removed 90% of the programs and files from it and have installed Channel D Pure Music software...Now the question. It appears I can run a Toslink optical digital out from the iMAC. I need to run a Toslink cable maybe 25 ft to my DAC...I have never tied to run an optical cable so far...
I know the optical cables are less than optimum but my DAC only has an optical input unused. What is the limit for a Toslink conection??
OK, after a lot of carping I tip my toe into the music server game. I own an iMAC with Leopard 10.5.8...I get the highly regarded Channel D Pure Magic software and a lot of digital cable..I set it up per the Pure Magic users guide, get as far as page 4 'Audio MIDI setup' and get to the screen in the operating system that is supposed to match the screen view in the users manual and...AS USUAL, the screen I get does not match nor does it list any Audio input or output options...
