Yeah, it can be weird when the speakers are wide apart and the soundtage spacious, but when the sound stage is a bit cramped due to space limitations, those 13 foot wide drums close down to 7 feet and sound more realistic.

To be frank, the 13 foot wide pianos and drum kits never bothered me, but it is an interesting change. Once I get back in our house and back to a similar (but hopefully better) set up I wonder what it will be like to hear those overly large instruments again.

It has always bothered me, because I am the kind who likes very few mics. A drum set or a piano with 4 support mics just don't sound right to me. Sometimes voices get too wide also.

I could move my speakers a little wider apart, but I like this better. It has of course to do with the room and the speakers too, no doubt. I like voices, drums and bass to be right in the middle.

Yeah, using 14 mics for the drum kit makes it sound unlike any drum kit I ever heard in real life. But then I appreciate pop and rock albums as an entity in themselves. They are not really transcriptions of performances, the recording is the performance.

So check out a download of that Hancock River stuff, but don't buy the entire thing as the 13 foot wide keyboard would certainly be an irritant!

Have a great weekend pal.

Trey
