Hi, welcome!

My foggy memory is still obscuring total recall, but there was a line called, IIRC, B.E.S.

They were not electrostatics, but were bipolar magnetic panel driven speakers.

Didn't they used to use ads that involved some sort of "pebble into water radiating wave imagery," because they claimed to have a way of making the speaker sound like a point source?

UD60, UD120?

Man, the bells are ringing, but I can't put words with the picture in my head.

I'm also thinking they had a blue fabric covered model.

I'll keep thinking.

The original Dahlquist DQ-10 looked like a QUAD, but used conventional drivers. I'm just guessing...Good Luck!

Man, it's still buggin' me.

I seem to also recall one that was biconvex, or maybe just a shallow arch; and they had a target shaped driver

I'm still thinking of the letter "B".

Still looking...

These?

Museatex Meliors:

Model One

Model Two

I still think the one I'm thinking of is yet to be remembered, lurking in the back of the old brain.

I'll keep at it.

Those Museatex Meliors were cool looking- weird but cool. Never heard any of course. They made some nice looking amps back in the eighties too. I don't see their stuff around much. Maybe they don't do much biz in the States...

Didn't the company evolve into EMM Labs?

Not much headroom, but when they worked... they worked very, very well.

The 1980 AUDIO annual equipment directory lists four models under the "B.E.S." name, described as "pulsating diaphram" speakers. The models listed are the SM250, 255, 275 and 300. The first three used an 850 sq. inch diaphram, while the SM300 used a 1750 sq. inch diaphram. Also, at least the top two model's high frequencies were supplimented with a piezo or piezo-electric tweeter. Prices ranged from $199 to $549. Per each or pair, I dunno!

I remember the ad , and I think somebody tested one, but I can't remember which mag it was.

The only BES speaker I have heard was made by a company named Bertagni Electroacoustic Systems (or something to that effect), owned by a Mr. Bertagni. I vagely remember meeting him once. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a rectangular flat panel shape about two feet high by 1.5 feet wide and about 4 inches thick. There were even two stacked on top of each other as an alternative.

The drive mechanism was a voice coil, which drove a specially shaped styrofoam panel that was hinged at the near-rectangular edge by a thinner ring of styrofoam, what appears to be a one-piece molded design, and shaped like an ear (behind the grille). Supposedly the shape like an ear is to transfer the sounds better to your ear, they claim. I recall that the company lasted a few years and then disappeared from view.

Maybe he got what he needed and split. I feel so used!
