It's a Vinyl World After All

This isn't "perfect sound," it's perfect life.

Vinyl News from Mikey Fremer: Last week, Michael Fremer sent me a copy of his 21st Century Vinyl DVD. Originally released in June 2006, Mikey's "Practical Guide to Turntable Set-Up" has sold over 7000 copies. While I recommend it to anyone interested in learning how to set up a turntable, I think it provides benefits to recent converts as well as experienced analog lovers. It is highly informative and entertaining. That Mikey, he's a funny dude.

Today, Michael announced that his second DVD, "It's a Vinyl World After All," is now in production. In this screen shot, we see the player, himself, looking all debonair and cocksure&#151looking right at home, in fact&#151at the Pallas pressing plant in Diepolz, Germany.

You go, boy.

An official release date for "It's a Vinyl World After All" has not been set, but Mikey hopes it'll be ready in time for Christmas. (Hear that, ma?)

From Acoustic Sounds: In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the vinyl LP format, Universal Music Group has announced that they will be releasing 20 new and classic LP titles. As a part of Universal's "Back to Black" campaign, these titles will be pressed on delicious 180-gram vinyl, and each package will include a friendly voucher for a complimentary digital download.

If only life were so simple and fair! Ah, vinyl. Not merely a format, it is a lifestyle.

If the initial batch of 20 proves successful, we can expect more from "Back to Black." Titles include Jimi Hendrix's Axis: Bold As Love, Marvin Gaye's I Want You, and Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP. Acoustic Sounds brings the scoop. Check them out for more information and a complete list of titles. Release date is July 15, but Acoustic Sounds is taking preorders now.

From SoundStage Direct: With concentrations in rock, jazz, soul, funk, and Latin(!), SoundStage Direct offers an enormous and eclectic selection of new and used vinyl. And not just the usual stuff, either. I'm about to jump all over TV On The Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain and Puscifer's "V" is for Vagina.

Also be sure to check out Sun Kil Moon's April. This beautiful album, pressed on dreamy white vinyl, is limited to only 2000 copies.
