I currently have about a thousand. About 6 years ago I culled 200-250.

I'm more selective with my purchases these days, when I do get one I don't like , I tend to sell or trade it before it's covered in dust.

My favorite used store recently went under, and that's going to put a crimp in my collecting. I used to audition a lot there, and the guy would take lists and call when he got stuff in. Probably a quarter of my jazz came from that one source.

About 1100 LPs, but 800 in "circulation" meaning some are in a closet in another room for very occasional usage.

It could be more in all categories since it's been a while since I took stock. I don't do too much "collecting either. I but 'cause I want to really listen to it! I have no interest in having things just for the sake of it as I like a clutter free space if possible (which it's not with wife and kids, but they're well worth it).

Over time I've culled out stuff for good and bad reasons (Bad: thought I was tired of old faves and wanted new stuff. ALWAYS ended up wanting to hear old faves a few years later and had to re-buy!) Other stuff never clicked or really was just the kind of crap you think is cool initially and then soon realize you were way off. That stuff goes. Luckily, over time I've gotten bigger apts. then bigger homes and now pretty much have as much storage as I want.

I still get rid of junk every now and then by donating or giving it away if I can. I hate throwing away music because someone, some where would want it, but you can't always find that someone.

Right around 1000 total between LP's and CD's. Every 2 or 3 years I purge anything that I haven't listened to in the past 2 years if I feel it is unlikely that I will play it in the next year or two.

About 2,000 digital sources (CDs, SACDs, concert DVDs) and 1,000 LPs, plus a few dozen cassettes of stuff I have never found elsewhere. I tried culling my collection when I moved it into a new storage area a year or so ago, but only found a dozen items I didn't want anymore--hardly worth the trouble to get rid of them, so I still have them...you never know who might stop by to listen to some music reproduced on something other than a Bose (fill your house with sound) system and want to hear one of those titles.

I can't remember the last time I counted my LPs, and I'm much too lazy to do it for you now, so I measured them. They take up sixteen and a half feet of shelf space.

As for CDs, I had no idea how many I had until I ripped them all to a server (which took months). The server says I have 2745 albums, but I think it counts discs, so a double album would count as two, a box set as more, etc.

This brings up more questions. Do you count multi-disc sets as one album, or more? And if you have both the LP and CD of an album, is that one or two when you count the entire collection? This is getting confusing.

Or my CD's. For both, you'll just have to live with "many".

I have a database of my music collection. It counts them for me. LP's=3423 CD's=1396

Around 500 LP's and 625 CD's, some of which are SACD's or DVD'a's.

I'm estimating since I don't actually keep track, but I probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 or 600 LPs and 1000 CDs. But that's just a guess
