So you want a new pair of inexpensive speakers and you want us to do the leg work for you? Just kidding

Cool idea, what's the time limit.

My entry is:

Thiel CS2

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1238910890&/Thiel-CS2

That's a lot of time and phase coherent speaker for $450!

Honorable mention:

Klipsch Chorus

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1240541110&/Klipsch-Chorus

I've always wanted to build a "fun" system around a low powered integrated and a pair of old Klipsh horn-loaded speakers.

Gag (in multiple meanings of the word) entry:

BOSE 901 Series V

I missed my own limit by 'this' much...

There are some Apogee Stages on Audiogon for 550.

The search continues!

I like those Thiels!

Been there done that still using them. Sansui 2500 speakers.

http://cgi.ebay.com/SANSUI-SP-2500-SPEAK...p3286.m20.l1116

This pair is overpriced. I got two pairs in mint condition for this amount for each pair. These cabinets need to be refinished. But from the looks of speakers they are in great shape after 34 years. Too bad they are only rated at 80W. Can't work for everyone. To bring up-to-date on power I would look for a steal on a Klipsch Heresy II or III set. Not hard to find on the net. Somebody is always upgrading or somebody died.

my choice for 500 would probably be some Magnepan MMG's or maybe this pair of Vandersteens: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?s...utiful-Mahogany

MINE!!!!

Am I allowed to build my own? Used parts? It involves work, but I can only stand listening to my own designs. Is this in the spirit of your question? Probably not.

In that case, I'd buy a set of used dynaudios..and fix them up. Probably Audience 42's or similar.

Or the Stages--Thus the fight over them. They probably need some TLC.

I'd like to of caught the ones that a local guy threw in the freaking dump!!! they were mint..but my friend was a bit late on contacting some rich guy who needed his looked at again. Instead, the guy threw them in the freaking dump!!

Gawd. Me balls pulled in, the world wobbled... and I nearly cried. Oh Gawd. Oh Gawd. Step away, I'm going to toss me dinner.*

They where a set of Duetta MkII signatures. Fug me.

*warning, this is not some English humor, it is merely inadvertently English humor. It is meant as an Americanism.
