I have listened to several amps from Onkyo over the years, and find them all a bit "bright" to listen to.

I think you would find the NAD would sound better.

Hi Folks !

I currently have a setup with some vintage Marantz LS-50 (rated 70W) and an Onkyo 9010 amp, which is working pretty well (small room).

However, with the chromecast audio being discontinued, I started looking at amps/receivers with integrated chromecast and other streaming services.

I also have a Rega 3 turntable, so I want to keep a good phono MM stage.

The question is should I keep my existing setup and just add some kind of steaming device such as NAD C 658 or slimilar, or would switching to a NAD C338 amp (or even C368 with BlueOS module), be a better move long run ?

I can't really tell from the reviews whether the NAD will have a better analog audio amp stage than the Onkyo, which is famous for its price, or whether I'm going to go backwards by changing it.

The advantage of the NADs is a bit more power output, which would also help if I ever "upgrade" my old Marantz speakers.

Cheers,
Ben.

That amp gets glowing reviews for its price, but I've not heard it and have no idea whether it bests NAD or not. I read a review that says the Onkyo is tweaked in the UK and it was designed with audio in mind over features and so I would tend to think it probably is a great little amp.

I have to ask, why have you not replaced those speakers? Speakers have really improved a lot since those were made.
