Have you tried ditching the powered hub and running the DAC straight into the board?
Then I would recommend purchasing an Audioquest Dragonfly DAC. It's approximately the size of your pinky finger, costs $149 retail, and plugs directly into your USB port. For an output it has a 1/8" stereo mini jack which I have my AKG K240's plugged into right this very minute. This eliminates the need for the laundry list of parts you posted earlier and sounds fantastic to boot.
I totally agree with Chuckles304 statement. I also run a 1.2 dragonfly right out of my MBP and into a pair of M audio BX5 monitors for a pretty darn good sound.
I'm using the hub for two reasons, I want to use the CEntrance DACport USB Codec and the only input for the device is via USB (the output is stereo mini).
Thank you guys but the whole reason for this post is to have music and my bass blend blissfully in my headphones with the gear I have on hand.
I'm crystal on the audio path if I just wanted to use only my headphones.
Ahh, sorry eiseman. I think I get it now. You are playing your bass through the equipment as well as the music on the headphones?
Indeed, yes I am. Thanks anyway!
I gotcha. I have tried various methods over the years for my guitar as well lol. Suffice it to say that I don't have to use headphones. My music room has the MBP, Dragonfly straight out to M Audio BX5's which can totally keep up a playable volume with Engle Savage 120 head.
Let us know what you figure out.
