I would look at NAD, Cambridge and Arcam. Those are going to be the most musical receivers you will find.

Exactly what model you should get will be dictated by your speakers, your need for room correction and other features in home theatre and your power requirements. All three companies make awesome receivers but your price range is going to be $600 to I think $6000 depending on the exact model and company.

Provide room specs, speaker types and a rough budget and we can help focus narrow down which model is best.

Many thanks for your reply.
The speakers are PSB Imagine towers, center and back surround - just 5 channels -- and 2 REL subwoofers connected by Neutrik cables. The room is more or less square 16X16. Two of the walls are all glass, but covered by fairly heavy drapes when I'm watching. Theres a large rug between the front speakers and the listening position. I think the speakers are moderately sensitive.
As for budget, truth is I've got to keep this under $2K.

You can't touch an Arcam for under $2K new so you have two very good options, the Cambridge Azur 551a for $1299 or the NAD T758 for $999. Those PSB speakers are fairly efficient and wonderful sounding. The NAD will sound a touch warm while the Cambridge sounds neutral. Both are awesome units and I would choose based on which sound profile you like better.

Thanks -- the Cambridge Audio has been updated but that's fine. The NAD is still in their line-up. I can't really listen to either so your description of their overall sound is quite useful.
