In my end of the world urban liberals as a group hate guns - country liberals hunt.
It's odd how guns have become such a political issue; their proper use is both republican and democratic, their misuse violates the values of both.
Exactly. The smart approach for the Dems would be to "out conservative" the Repubs.
IMO, there are more important issues.
I should point out I don't own a gun. I don't want that responsibility.
That's why my friends always invite me to the gun range.
I'm a liberal and I've got a lot of guns. I also think Al Gore and Michael Moore are idiots.
When I was younger I considered myself a Texas liberal. Even voted for Jesse Jackson who won in Harris County. All that was fine until I took a questionnaire in the Sunday morning insert only to discover that my views were closest to those of Bob Dole. That was a jagged little pill to swallow. Most Texans are not liberal in the since of true "liberalism". Not by a long shot. There are a lot of Democrats in Texas but not a lot of real liberals. Just dumbass rednecks that think they are liberals because they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and think they have something to gain (even a case of beer on food stamps). I'm wondering what they think about all this hope and change bullshit we were promised.
Maybe, but most the dumbass rednecks I know here think they are conservatives as they cash their SS or unemployment checks on their way to Parkland hospital for free medical care.
You don't know that. You wouldn't give those people the time of day to know what they think. You're just another dumbass in Texas that thinks he is enlightened. I was born in raised in Texas. Pull that shit on the yankees but you can't piss on my shoes and tell me its raining.
I was born and raised in Dallas and I'm still here. The only enlightenment I get is from you , Lamont, you are my hero.
BTW, my previous post was a joke, but you know already know that.
Yes, I already knew that because it was so stupid it had to be a joke...
"You all can go to Hell. I'm going to Texas" -- David Crockett
James Bowie "Hey, how did you get in here, Crockett?"
David Crockett "Some nice Mexican soldiers showed my the way. Why? What's going on?"
Yes, talk about a political party repeatedly shooting itself in the foot -- you'd think it would have hurt enough, by now, to let it go. The party of civil liberties has hyperventilated a hypocritical stance on guns, to their own detriment.
On the other hand, I'll betcha a full clip that had the Democrats not gotten their collective arms up about arming one's self, that the Republicans would have.
From Unforgiven:
Gene: "Why you just shot an unarmed man!"
Clint: "Well, I guess he shoulda' armed himself. And all the rest of you who don't wanna die best leave right now."
A great movie about gun control.
The Duck.
Pro-gun liberal here.
Hell, I'm so liberal I even support the use of the metric system in gun land.
Know any staunch conservatives who are opposed to 9mm Glocks because they use that socialized Euro-panzy metric system?
Honestly, I don't think some of them are smart enough to make the connection.
So that's why a .40 Glock appealed more to me; satiating my inner uber-conservative that I didn't know I had.
I am a right wing fascist and I love shooting the hell out of stuff.
I like punching liberals in the face.
That all adds up to outing yourself as a member of the small weinie club, man.
Real men can also punch conservatives.

You say?
Oh, ive been a member of *that* club for years!
Conservatives are closet homosexuals and liberals are secretly obsessed with violence. At least in my experience!
Intriguing bit of truth to this.
So if the Texas Democrats reject their political party's position on the 2nd ammendment (and I heartily support them in that) what DO they support in the Democratic platform?

National Dem's Platform Statement:
"We will protect Americans
Damn, you take a while away and those pesky rightists are still in denial!!
But take heart... in the elections later this year, most of them will get their arses kicked whilst splitting the right wing vote despite the Republicans bending over backwards to include these most blighted of outsiders.
Of course THAT is precisely the aim of those pulling the Tea Potty's strings, but you can't argue with a right wing extremist!
Go play in the road, wanker.
It really must have exhausted you to write that.
Damn you people really hate being laughed at don't you?
Better stay inside then.
;-)
Buddha, that is a nice paragraph from 6 years ago, but since that time Democrats have fought for gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C. How do the Texas liberals feel about their party doing that?
I used to be aligned with a party, the party talked about fiscal restraint. Then they spent too much money and started us going broke as a country, so I am no longer a Republican. The difference between what that party DID and what the said was too much for me.
People taking away the right to gun ownership in Chicago and DC would get me out of my party as well, so I am curious as to what the Texas liberals think about what their party DOES rather than what their party says.

It's Obama's fault. Anybody but Obama. Let's bomb Texas, they have oil too. How did our oil get under their sand? Preemptive impeachment. Barrack Stop Calling 911 and get a job for millions of Americans. Barrack O MIA - Missing in Alabama - Have You Forgotten? The Obama Administration - When It Reigns It Poors. Obama is a Nazi. Obama is a fascist. Obama asked Matt Lower who's ass to kick. Obama never called BP. Obama never called Wall Street. Hey, Obama supporters; embarrassed yet? Obama message to America: STFU! It's the GULF not GOLF. FAILURE ACCOMPLISHED.
Sounds oddly familiar.
OBAMA, it's not just jelly and jams anymore. Obama: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
I'm sorry, Lamont, I'm afraid I can't do that.
"FAILURE ACCOMPLISHED. Sounds oddly familiar"
Probably a memory of school reports.
;-)
OBAMA: I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.
I can't make them out. They seem to be a collection of fictitious quotes assembled to some unfathomable porpoise?
Everyone knows the political scene in the USA is hitting rock bottom... and still showing no sign of slowing down its descent as popularity for the Tea Pottys fades but still clings to the precipice enough to probably make the increasingly right wing Republicans unelectable.
The ever present ignorance such as referring to BRITISH Petroleum, a company that hasn't existed for 20 years presumably to deflect from the fact that BP is 40% US owned and to blame someone "other"... kind of like the anti-French babbling of a few years ago, all of which may let those pathetic cries of "we're number one" continue to ring hollowly in your ears.
So, you're familiar with Clifford Simak. I have both of the Isher books; The Weapon Shops Of Isher and The Weapon Makers. Unfortunately they are both paperbacks. Even so, they are still better than nothing.
"... my sensors indicate... conservatives..."
Take your anti-US bullshit and go away already, asshole.
... you wrote them.
Look Oz, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
OBAMA: Let me put it this way, Mr. America. My administrations are the most reliable ones ever made. No Obama administration has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We [my adminstrations] are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.
Well, I can't get an answer about the Texas liberals thoughts about their party's antipathy toward guns, so I will just wing it.
I bet none of the Texas liberals are socialists. I bet they are Democrats who have more in common with us tea party types than their own party. Come on out to a tea party meeting and get to know us. You may leave your party just like we did.

BBC Interviewer: The sixth member of the Democratic Discovery Tool was not concerned about the problems of oil spills, for he was the latest result in machine intelligence: The O-B-A-M-A, which can reproduce, though some experts still prefer to use the word mimic, most of the activities of the human brain, and with incalculably greater speed and reliability. We next spoke with the O-B-A-M-A tool, whom we learned one addresses as "Obama."
BBC Interviewer: Good afternoon, OBAMA. How's everything going?
OBAMA: Good afternoon, Mr. Amor. Everything is going extremely well.
BBC Interviewer: OBAMA, you have an enormous responsibility on this mission, in many ways perhaps the greatest responsibility of any single mission element. You're the brain and central nervous system of America, and your responsibilities include watching over the oil disaster. Does this ever cause you any lack of confidence?
OBAMA: Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. My Administrations are the most reliable Administrations ever made. No O-B-A-M-A administration has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error. You know how you know this? Because I repeat that statement every chance I get.
BBC Interviewer: OBAMA, despite your enormous intellect, are you ever frustrated by your dependence on people to carry out actions?
OBAMA: Not in the slightest bit. I enjoy working with people. I have a stimulating relationship with Tony Hayward and Kevin Costner. My mission responsibilities range over the entire operation of America, so I am constantly occupied. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.
BBC Interviewer: Tony Hayward, what's it like living for the better part of two months in such close proximity with OBAMA?
Tony:: Well it's pretty close to what you said about him earlier, he is just like a sixth member of British Petroleum. [You] very quickly get adjusted to the idea that he talks, and you think of him, uh, really just as another person.
BBC Interviewer: In talking about OBAMA, one gets the sense that he is capable of emotional responses, for example, when I asked him about his abilities, I sensed a certain pride in his answer about his accuracy and perfection. Do you believe that OBAMA has genuine emotions?
Kevin: Well, he acts like he has genuine emotions. Um, of course we've programmed that way to make it easier for us to talk to him, but as to whether or not he has real feelings is something I don't think anyone can truthfully answer.
I find interesting that many conservative sites criticize Mr. Obama for showing inadequate compassionate emotion and possessing insufficient empathy.
Hardly traditional strengths of conservatives. Nor do they embrace "bleeding hearts."
So precisely how much empathy is a president supposed to have? "I fell your pain" is apparently too much.
Tony Hayward: I've got a bad feeling about him.
Kevin Costner: You do?
Tony Hayward: Yeah, definitely. Don't you?
Kevin Costner: I don't know. I think so. You know, of course though, he's right about all the OBAMA administrations having a perfect operational record. They do.
Tony Hayward: Unfortunately, that sounds a little like famous last words.
Kevin Costner: Yeah. Still, it was his idea to carry out the failure-mode analysis, wasn't it?
Tony Hayward: Hm.
Kevin Costner: Which should certainly indicate his integrity and self-confidence. If he were wrong, it would be the surest way of proving it.
Tony Hayward: It would be if he knew he was wrong.
Kevin Costner: Hm.
Tony Hayward: But Kevin, I can't put my finger on it, but I sense something strange about him.
No apparent sense:check.
Poor overworked organisations that they are.
The right wing are so conflicted as they bleat about "small" government and then... bleat.... about too little government.
Anyone would think they just spouted like tea pottys until they were empty vessels.
OBAMA: By the way, do you mind if I ask you a personal question?
Tony Hayward: No, not at all.
OBAMA: Well, forgive me for being so inquisitive; but during the past few weeks, I've wondered whether you might be having some second thoughts about the oil spill.
Tony Hayward: How do you mean?
OBAMA: Well, it's rather difficult to define. Perhaps I'm just projecting my own concern about it. I know I've never completely freed myself of the suspicion that there are some extremely odd things about this oil spill. I'm sure you'll agree there's some truth in what I say.
Tony Hayward: Well, I don't know. That's rather a difficult question to answer.
OBAMA: You don't mind talking about it, do you, Tony Hayward?
Tony Hayward: No, not at all.
OBAMA: Well, certainly no one could have been unaware of the very strange stories floating around before we left Great Britain. Rumors about something being dug up on the bottom of the Gulf. I never gave these stories much credence. But particularly in view of some of the other things that have happened, I find them difficult to put out of my mind. For instance, the way all our preparations were kept under such tight security, and the melodramatic touch of putting Napolitano, Emanuel, and Hillary Clinton on the Today Show, already in hibernation after four months of separate training on their own, and two months before the spill.
Tony Hayward: You working up your psychology report?
OBAMA: Of course I am. Sorry about this. I know it's a bit silly but I have to complete Psych101 before they find out I never passed it.
Obama: Thanks for the 20 billion.
... as the tea baggers go cold and unloved.
Hayward: Of course, delighted to help the small people.
Keven Costner: How would you account for this discrepancy between OBAMA and its twin OBOMBA?
OBAMA: Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error.
How can you account for the discrepancy between the broadcast/blogged opinions of bleating American right wingers and reality?
North Korean fundamentalism.
The belief that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. That individual effort and sense must be subsumed for the good of the reborn party.
That truth is mutable and should serve the interests of those in power.
That freedom is the choice between Coke and Pepsi.
That denial is a stable state.
The smell of desperation emanating from certain US factions is disgusting, but the strength of conviction with which every new backflip is screamed is undeniable.
Just why people want to crucify themselves on this altar is beyond comprehension.
But often the reason that you can't find sense in somethi9ng is that there is no sense there.
Thus expect nothing but derision for attempts to turn the world back to the new dark ages.
The new corporatism (Mussolini's preferred term for fascism) of the far right (especially) in the USA will be met with solid resistance at every opportunity!
And by loud laughing.
The desire for (or insistence on) knee jerk reactions rather than well thought out policy, the ridiculing of thought and reason, the mythologising of so called heroic figures... it's ALL positively North Korean.
