Project has a phono stage called the Phono Box II USB which sells for $179. I haven't heard this exact unit but their standard Phono Box II is very nice for the price. Here's the link http://www.sumikoaudio.net/project/products/phonobox_2_usb.htm
thanks for the info. is it going to matter to me that this unit is a 16 bit delta sigma A/D converter ?
the reason i asked about the slim devices transporter is that i might get one soon ?
thanks for the guideance.
paul
The Transporter is a DAC. Digital inputs only.

i see pro-ject has a tube box, i assume it has usb.
i am wondering if i would realize any audible benifit useing the usb of the tube box compared to the phono box (which is not tubed)- ?
thanks
paul
Neither of the tube units have USB.
