It sounds like he has dust in the volume control. My JBLs do that, too. If you mute the output and crank the knob up and down, it helps. Beyond that, I don't know what to do. On an amplifier, you'd clean the contacts, but computer speakers don't lend themselves to maintenance.

Problem almost fixed, it definitely reduced the crackle a good bit, but not all the way. Thanks again
