Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a record cleaner (I think?) and am allowing around $500 for it (if needed). It seems like two groups to look at are the VPI and the Nitty Gritty models? Anybody care to offer opinions on these products, or others, or want to tell why I should never spend so much on such a device? :-)
The table is a Project RM-9 with a blue-point special, fyi.
Thanks for any advice!
I just went to buy a radio shack sound pressure meter and they only had the "new" digital one in the store. My memory is that the classic analog sound meter is flawed but the flaws are well known and built into everyone's solution
my question is - is the "new" digital radio shack soundmeter accurately flawed or "accurate" ?
thanks

Hi,this is the first time I have posted on this site but I am a long term reader of Stereophile.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Eximius software which upsamples CD to higher resolution on a PC. I am interested in experimenting so if no one else has done this yet I'll take the plunge and report back.
If you have tried this software it would be good to hear your comments.
Cheers!
Steve
Hello,
After viewing the long DBT threat it is clear to me that you are very confident of the frivolity, if I can put it that way, of much of the hi-end, that many pieces of gear are overpriced for what they do, that many buyers fall back on specious claims having committed to expensive gear and so on. I'm not bothering to quote you, it's all the thread after all, so I just trying keep it simple and talk plainly.
As an audio enthusiast I like to be well informed. While a firm believer in the 'your own ears are the final arbiter' mantra I nonetheless an also interested in the opinions of others. Indeed I'm a big fan of subjective reviews, having consumer 1000s upon 1000s of them, found myself agreeing with some that intersected with my own experiences, and yes, came away from many such intersections thinking "could that guy be more wrong?".
to correlate with subjective findings for electronic components.
While I am not a big reader of JA measurements sections it does seem to me that his technical evaluations of speakers carry more hints of corroboration with subjective findings than those covering amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, etc. So why not use speaker measurements as alternate, or supplementary measurements, for those electronic components, the measurements of the speaker amplifying the minute and subtle but real effects of the electronic components that gives them their unique sonic signatures.
My new listening room dictates I place my component rack toward the back of the room. So, I have to have speaker cable runs of up to 40 feet! Yes, I know this is not ideal. Any opinions on what cables to use to maintain signial integrity over this long distance?
