Robert Baird's article Sound Man acknowledges the contribution of individual recording engineers to the music we all collect. I won't argue that they can make silk purses out of sows ears, but really good recording engineers can make marvelous additions to the work of fine musicians. There are lots of reasons why most jazz lovers cherish their copies of Jazz at the Pawnshop, but high on the list is the spectacular job Gert Palmcrantz did in capturing the sense of the room and the sound stage. If you want to explain imaging to someone, play that recording.
Just wanted you guys to know about 2-3 quite nice database you could use if you have a lot of music or movie software in any format.
The first is "dvd register". use it to cataloque all your dvd , vhs and laserdisc software. You pay a yearly subscription and once-per-month , you download a list of titles,so,all you have to do is type the barcode and everything else is added automatically in the database. Problem is,personally,i find it a bit difficult if you wish to add something manually.
I have a sprung wooden floor. I removed the spikes from my Vandersteen 2W subwoofer and set it atop three "sandwiches" (of two each) neoprene/cork isolators. This improved bass clarity and also the imaging of my main speakers (Maggie 3.5s). Does anyone have any experience with using Aurios or other isolators on a subwoofer?
My current CD player is the Simaudio Moon Eclipse LE, soon to be replaced by the new Moon Andromeda. I would like to create new CD recordings/compilations from my CD collection, much as we used to do with analog tape decks. However, I would like to use a dedicated CD recording device integrated into my current audio system, rather than relying only on my home computer's CD burning software. Denon offers one or more CD recorders, but I'm curious as to your recommendations for a CD recorder that would accept a digital feed from my existing CD player. Please advise. Thank you!
having read the stereophile review, the new Perfrmance 6's seem cholk o' block full of new technology, but I didn't really get a sense of the soul of these speakers. anybody heard them yet?
