1) Art Dudley in his disc player review. Recalling all the hype that was generated in the past regarding certain tweaks and giving a brief review of the current state of those past "glaring diiference" makers. This hobby tends toward miracle cures that get everyone all aflutter and then fade. It's important that we keep those ideas alive to see if they have "legs" and to remind us of which ideas have evolved from fad to bad. Great perspective reminder!

I'm new to this forum and farily new to this hobby. I started out as vinyl collector, but have lately have got back to CDs (with the help of a decent CDP: Cambridge Audio DS500SE).

I regularly troll through audiogon and keep on coming across Jazz at the Pawnshop in a variety of formats (I'm considered the XRCD). I'm not wondering about the sound quality, but the actual music itself. What sort of style jazz is it? Cool, Bebop, Fusion, Smooth? Yes, I hate the categories too, but they are helpful in narrowing down the play style of the musicians.

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum, thank you.
My small dilemma is that I want to get a turntable like a Denon or a Kenwood to match my system. What's the difference between a straight or S shaped tonearm? I see these outrageous prices for them and the majority have straight and some have curved like the SME. Comon' can somebody help before I spend too much for actually nothing.

For those who don't already know about it and live in Denver CO area the Rocky Mountian Audio Fest is this weekend. There were a lot of very good sounding rooms last year and I expect it will be even better this year.

Lots of anticipation for this one at certain other sites, but I was not really expecting anything great, not having purchased a new Macca LP since...well, never I guess, although I do have a recently purchased Ram and Band on the Run in the collection.

But then I started reading all kinds of positive reviews, and they all seemed to say that this was among Paul's best solo work...EVER. Now, for me, critical acclaim for a pop record is normally like Kryptonite. The louder the critical buzz, the less I like the band (for reference, see early releases by the White Stripes).

Hello...new to this forum. I do have a question about adding an extra sub to supplement an existing 2 channel setup(preamp, amp, speakers). My preamp has a single output. I'm starting to call up modification services to add a sub-out. Is there an easy and safe alternative way on what I have right now? A friend of mine suggested to split the left channel output but I'm worried what it might do damage in the long run. I could sell the preamp and find a unit that will satisfy the purpose but I'm still going to buy the sub and cables. Can someone recommend a mod service if no way is possible?

Can anybody tell what is the better DVI-D cable choice between Tributaries and BetterCables ?

The $1000 systems are interesting. How about a bigger budget and a bigger expectation.
Full range system either with sub or without, large room 20x20, and 2 channel or more. Should have CD and LP playback capability. Not SOTA but on the other hand, a system that is audiophile level. Possible?
