First off -- Hi! This site is simply amazing, thank you all so much for your wonderful input. So, here we go -- I'm poised with a meager student's budget to start building my first 'real' audio system... hurrah and huzzah. But, sadly, I'm very very confused about which components I need and which I don't... maybe a little advice would be in order?
I am a 17 year old guy who just purchased a pair of Infinity Primus 360 speakers (rated 10-200 watts) and I need a reciever/amplifier for them. I am looking at a Denon AVR-785S, as it can be had on ebay for around $300. I can spend at most $350. All I need is one that would suit the speakers, I won't be replacing them with anything audiophile grade for a very long time. Does anyone have an suggestions?
Hello. I am considering buying a bryston 4b st, 4b sst, or 7b sst, or 3b sst for my home system (jm lab cobalt 816 speakers).
Since I do not have a way to listen to all four on my system to decide, I thought I'd ask for some advice. I did listen to the 4b st, and It was great buy seemed to lack some depth...not too warm. That was my only problem.
any comments? I'd appeciate any help.
cheers,
-Alex
Diehard jazz fans probably well aware of this one, but this newly discovered gem offers up plenty of goosebumps. SACD Multi-channel hybrid with Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Jeff Hamilton recorded live (1988) at a Santa Monica Club co-owned by Ray Brown. As Corey Greenberg would say, "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing".

So we're all pretty jazzed about the Wave Audio DAC, it's a long overdue product. In principle, I am too, but in practice I've already invested more than I should to put a (way too) high end DAC in my main system, and I just can't rationalize the cost for a bedroom system that sounds good, but is worth at most $1000 at this point. So far the best solution I have is USB from the laptop into some sort of USB to PCM converter (e.g. M-Audio Sonica Theater or similar), then digital coax into a DAC--which is getting pretty roundabout and kind of pricey for what I'm trying to do.
Aloha,
A post on another thread reminded me of a speaker that I have heard people rave about but have never heard for myself.
The speakers in question are made by a studio company called Mackie, and they have a line of self-powered speakers, most notably the 626 and 824 (sometimes with "HR" in front of the model number.)
Anybody here ever play with any of thses speakers?
My father has been having problems with his small stereo system. (It's a Tendenberg tuner, Merantz CD player and a Rotel amp). Not very highend stuff. He uses it for the dinning room. He wants to replace all of it. He used to do business with Stuarts Audio in Englewood NJ but they've moved. Is there a place in Manhattan that can hook him up with some good stuff but not too expensive. And not Japanese. I'm going to print out some of the stuff I'm reading on this site. It's all very informitive. Thanks.
